The New Inn, Pembridge

Spent my honeymoon here Sept. 1971, the landlord was a Major Deer, we had a cool reception on arrival but that soon changed and I think the reason may be the confetti that had been packed into our luggage which ended up everywhere when unpacking. I remember going down to the bar and asking for a Brown & mild and being told, [ We don't serve that here but if that's what I want I should ask for ?????} cant remember what it was, obviously too common for this Inn. ( classic ) The food was good but being young and uneducated probably didn't appreciate it, anything I left was questioned and an alternative was delivered to the table regardless if I had had enough, (we were being looked after.) The best part was the evenings, when we just wanted to sit on our own for a quiet drink we would be made to sit in the public bar with all the regulars, ( kind though I think) the only problem there was when we were tired and ready for bed it was to embarrassing to get up and leave, so most nights we sat up till closing time. I have since lost my wife after 38 yrs. of happy marriage, and am very tempted to pay another visit for old time sake, it would be nice to have the same room where you had to run up hill from the bed to the door. Fond memories.
