The Red Lion, Weymouth

Just to correct Scotty2007, this is NOT a Free House despite the claim Free Trade (what on earth does that mean anyway) on the pub sign. Before the refurb it used to claim to be a Free House. It is actually one of five pubs run by a small pub company based in Cheshire called Cheshire cat Pubs & Bars Ltd. They don't even own the pub but lease it from the giant pub chain Punch. However this pub has always been economical with the truth - it claimed to be Weymouth's favourite pub back in 2009 before it was even re-opened.

The Boot, Weymouth

As a local Camra member I'm totally confused by Bathmatt's comments. First I agree with him that the improved Globe is worth patronising which is why we have added it to the recommended pubs in the Good Beer Guide. However can I put the record straight; the Boot WAS ommitted from the 2011 GBG for the simple reason that entries are submitted in March of the previous year and the previous licensee was leaving in April. We did not know who was taking on the license so could not recommend the pub that year. Happily we are more than satisfied that the Boot has proved it is still one of the premier real ale outlets in West Dorset and it is listed in the 2012 GBG. As to the other points; expensive? - average prices for pubs in the area; poor quality? - you visited on 8th Dec - the Ringwood Porter at this time of year is to die for; unfriendly - this can be subjective but I certainly have interesting conversations with perfect strangers each time I visit.
