The Red Lion, Godalming

This pub has potential - but I can't agree with the 'excellent' and 'amazing' comments on here.

When the atmosphere is good it is brilliant, but when it is bad it is so bad it makes you want to leave without finishing your drink.
About all the comments about the Great Dane. She's a really lovely dog - but way too large for the table height and it's that simple - one wag of her tail can send your drinks flying.

Yes it's a dog friendly pub, and yes that is a good thing - but not for a pub that serves food. What are you going to do - ban all dogs when you serve food? It's unhygenic and you can't have both. It's a big dog pub the times I have been in - and that doesn't go with the food idea.

The bar staff are great friendly and work hard but there is only so much they can do,. There is a big, big but thought - I saw (and this really was BAD) someone having to call the landlord (I assume it was him) on his phone to ask for a drink as he was just chatting to friends.

Right now they need a decent cleaner, the landlord (if that is him) needs to get involved more, and choose between dogs and food - as it's ruining what could be a decent pub.
