The Cutty Sark Tavern, Greenwich
Have recently moved near to this pub, and was really looking forward to visiting as it's in such a great location - great views and close to home as well as the centre of Greenwich.
Having visited, I must say that I still love the pub as somewhere to drink - there's a nice feel to the place and the view are everything you'd expect. However, please don't eat there!
I had read a previous review, suggesting that the food had gone downhill here a bit - this must be a massive understatement. The prices charged suggest a good standard of pub food - but I've had better pretty much every pub I've ever been in!
To be fair, my brother-in-law enjoyed his steak, but the rest was hugely disappointing. My sister and I had the Steak and Ale pie - the pie itself was average, but passable - it came with mash and veg that were all very dry and salty. My girlfriend chose the Sunday roast and you could see from the second it was served that it was an awful piece of meat. Really dry - I've never tasted beef like it!
The deserts were terrible as well - my girlfriend and my sister chose the apple crumble, which resembled vomit more than pudding. It was clearly a cheap, ready-meal type thing - the custard managed to be both watery and lumpy, which was impressive! Yet they still charged about 5 for it.
This place has the potential to be one of my favourite pubs in London, but it isn't. It's nice for a drink - especially if the weather's nice - but the food is the worst I've come accross, and I've eaten in a lot of pubs! Avoid eating here at all costs - I paid 73 for the four of us to eat two apalling courses. Not funny.
