The Old House At Home, Shadwell

Ok, forget it chaps, have been reliabley informed that this little gem is going to become four flats, therby starving Shadwell of it's only traditional establishment. You could try the Thomas Neale in Watney Market from now on, or move to a part of London whose population hasn't been so ruthlessly displaced by the British government over the last couple of generations that you may find somewhere to have a decent pint and a decent laugh.

The George Tavern, Stepney

Just saying that it's one of those desecrated grand old east end boozers, that if it hasn't been turned into flats or a fried chicken takeaway, gets filled with the sons and daughters of middle England who are scared of pubs with carpets. That's all. If you want to drink in it then do, just know that you've missed out on what was a fantastic, atmospheric, popular meeting point for people who were actually from East London, and these sort of places are dropping like flies due to the demographic changes within Tower Hamlets. If you live in East London, use the real pubs or lose them for good. This is unfortunately what has happened in the case of The George.

The George Tavern, Stepney

This pub used to be a London classic and was very popular, the new management has short sightedly ruined it by ripping down the victorian plasterwork and carpets and replacing them with, well... nothing. All very trendy and bohemian now, if you like that sort of thing.
