The Black Lion, Brighton

Totally overrated. No idea why it's so popular, evidence that some people (mainly tourists down for the weekend rather than Brighton locals) have no taste. With so many genuinely good pubs nearby (The Victory on Middle St for one) it's a wonder it hasn't been forced to up its game.

The Victory Inn, Brighton

Wonderful pub. Local ales change monthly, good selection of decently priced food which again changes frequently, staff are friendly, and although the pub gets more lively on weekend evenings with DJs and functions it's still quiet enough the rest of the time for some much needed R&R in the centre of Brighton. I come quite regularly and although it seems a shame more people don't make use of it I'm not actually sure I'd want that to change!
