Now live in the Scotish borders and occasionally can be seen in my Kilt which is a 1937 modern Mackenzie, which was my G/dads, (Military) although the family tartan is Colquhoun.
Enjoy pubs and have collected them in my memory for what seems like a thousand years.
My local is the The old Thistle Inn Westruther.
That is when my wife lets me go there!!!

The Old Thistle Inn, Westruther
Having lived locally now for 2.5 years I had visited this pub on no more than 9 occasions, during this time and had never felt at home. Until the new owners took over some weeks ago.
I have visited more than 20 times since and every time have been made to feel welcome and warm on cold days, and welcome & cool on hot days.
The beer is good and I have heard so many good comments from other local folk about the new owners cooking that I have booked a table for 4 this evening for a meal.
I will be reporting back but certainly still regard this as my local and will support the new owners, whole heartilly. PS it is worth mentioning that they sell a nice ginger beer for those that have to drive...

The Old Thistle Inn, Westruther
Our meal...
Further to my earlier posting, I have just returned home from the Thistle with my wife and her father and mother, who are visiting from England.
To quote my father in law "The lamb shank, done in a red sauce, knocks spots off the lamb shank we had in Wales last year"! Mother in law was more than satisfied with the Chicken, stuffed with haggis and served in a whiskey sauce.
My wife for her part agreed in full that the meal (she had the same as her Mum), was extremley, good value and really tasty.
For my part I was very pleased with the standard of service, the quality, quantity, and warmth of the welcome that was given not only to my party but to other members of the public that were dining.
As the new owners build their business, I can percieve The Old Thistle Inn being a venue that will have to be booked well in advance for food.
Thankfully I will still be able to have an enjoyable pint in the bar. See you there sometime.
