The Garden Gate, Hampstead Heath

Popular boozer right next to Hampstead Heath - the train station and the real thing. On the whole, caters to quite a young crowd, but you still meet locals who've been in Hampstead "twenty years, man and boy," and all that sort of thing. The beers are pretty pricey, the wines more so, but there's a pretty good rack of spirits, and you get a deal on large measures.

Separate smoking and non-smoking sections, if you find that sort of thing important.

A large double-sided fireplace keeps you warm in the winter time; two large leather sofas occupy the prime location right next to it.

The beer garden is great in the summer, especially when they run the barbecue. The burgers we had weren't exactly prime beef, but were a good size and reasonably priced.

Open until midnight most evenings, and gets very busy at the weekend.

Ye Olde White Horse, Aldwych

There is now a cheerful sign on the door, which reads "NO STUDENTS". So that should clear things up for you.
