The Corners Inn, Kingsland
Booked ths place for a meal for 8 people. When I rung up I was surprised to be immediately told 'Yes we have a table for you'. I had booked it for a Saturday night 1 week in advance and the woman didn't even need to check. That should have sent the alarm bells ringing. All the decent places have to at least check their books, especially for a group of 8, and particularly leading up to Christmas!!
I've had a beer in this pub a few times before and found it to be pretty poor. Landlord....try some line cleaner!!!! The restaurant looks nice, although I have never eaten there.
What a mistake it was booking this place. Had a pre dinner drink in the bar. The beer is still woeful. Hardly anyone there apart from 3 old men who were shouting in a semi drunken manner (they must have got drunk at home, the beer here stinks)
Through to the restaurant. Nicely laid out tables.....but all of them empty. Yes thats right. A Saturday night. We were the only party there. I could see members of my group looking nervously at each other.
The food prices were extortionate. It's not always the case, but with high prices sometimes the food is superb.
But not in this place.
The food was barely edible. My 'Sirloin' Steak resembled a lump of stewing steak from a 99p can of dog food from Morrisons. The portion was tiny. The vegetables were barely edible. We ordered 6 portions of chips, only 5 turned up, the remainder arrived just as we were about to leave. The old waitress (with a voice like Marge Simpson) was rude, abrupt and stinking of cigarettes.
My partner had Duck. It was raw and was served with a cold plum sauce that looked like the 'Chef' had emptied a jar of cold jam over it before shoving it in the microwave. Another member of our party had Chicken. He left it untouched.
The final bill topped 100. I was embarrassed for everyone in the group.
As we drove away we noticed the Angel pub just down the road was packed out. Clearly word had got around about the place to eat in Kingsland.
Never again will I set foot in the Corners inn, for a meal or otherwise. I strongly suggest you do the same.
if it was possible to award -10 for this hell hole it still wouldnt be enough.
