INDO, Whitechapel

If you like your doylies impeccable, your virgins immaculate and your pizza pristine, avoid this place. it's less Sistine Chapel and more Painters' Workshop. But the pizza is brilliant - the hottest and tastiest I've had since charcoal-fired wood-stove pizzas in Northern Italy one summer. The beer and cider are fine (yes, you can actually get cider, hallelujah) and the service is passable to tragicomically amusing, but certainly beats Wetherspoons for entertainment value and promptness. What's more, the crowd is far more interesting and the music, albeit often deafeningly loud, is varied and conversation inspiring. Hard to know what else to say, as it's narrow and cramped, does have pongy toilets and there are no frilly tablecloths. But I wouldn't drink anywhere else.
