The Noughts and Crosses, Polperro
Like Nigel our holiday was completely ruined through our bad choice of staying at Little Laney opposite the N&C in Polperro. I complained to the land-lady after 3 nights of having yobs sitting on our doorstep and on our windowsills, going through the same stories which Nigel heard. We thumped on the window one time at 2.30am and this only made them worse. In the end my hubby and I had to move out half way through as we were so stressed. The owner of the cottage has refused to take any responsibility because he says that he has never had complaints before and it is the pub we should be taking our issues up with. However, the landlady said that she had advised him previously that he should warn people staying at the cottage about the close proximity and the nature of the pub. We never drank or ate in there because we were so fed up with the place at night let alone during the day. However, it did seem to have a constant trickle of families going in and out during the day so assume it is popular with holiday makers.

Apologies to Cleggy for using this site to rant about the cottage as well - but I just wanted to point out that the pub has an environmental responsibility to the locals and the holiday-makers staying in the area. The front door of the pub is literally 13ft from the front door of the cottage with the area in between being used as a "open air bar". Not entirely the pub's fault because of the smoking ban - but despite promises from the land-lady to control it, she did not and let the late night revellers do entirely as they pleased. We paid 920 for the cottage for that bank holiday week (plus an additional 350 to stay in alternative B&B after the 3rd sleepless night) so you can see why we are trying to air our grievances as much as we can!
