The Lyceum, Strand

I called in because the Wellington (practically next door) was heaving with office workers at 6pm on Thurday. It was a delightful haven; I sat in a tiny booth - like an overnight railway compartment, except there was no bed. Drank Alpine Lager but a companion enjoyed Sam Smiths. Ladies toilets were very clean , and a warm carpeted upper room had tables where food was served. Brass rails on stairs and panelling gave a club-like atmosphere. I don't think I'll bother with the Wellington in future
