May be reopening under new ownership/management as soon as Friday 13th April - confirmation of veracity and longer term changes awaited with interest.

The pub closes on Thursday 12th April, possibly not to reopen as a pub after 143 years on this site. So for prosterity a few words:

The Avenue, Barnet

Taking into account how busy this pub can be on Friday and Saturday evenings the barmaids, confidently led by the lovely Lucia, are remarkably enthusiastic in the face of the largely tight lipped customers and as a matter of course properly fill all pint glasses.
Until recently my previous visit was when the pub was still the Red Lion, but I will certainly be returning.
Remember to arrive before 11.00pm!
