The Winning Post, Whitton

Went here last Sunday having been once previously to the carvery, which I was very impressed with.
However, the carvery has now been replaced with a run-of-the-mill Harvester/Wetherspoons type system, whereby you choose your meal from a menu and go to the bar and order your food stating your table number - although the staff did allow me to order my drinks with my meal I got the distinct impression that this was an exception to the norm and that I would normally have been told to go to another part of the bar to order my drinks (that's one up to Wetherspoons then, where at least you can order food and drink together). I'm afraid the food wasn't up to much either - my mash potato tasted supiciously like Smash and my wife's roast beef was cut so thin you could almost see straight through it!!!
Ok, ok, I know this is a site about pubs and not restaurants, as I was driving I didn't have a beer and so I can't comment on this, but I will agree with previous posts in that this place has no atmosphere. I don't really think it can be classed either as a pub or a restaurant - it may as well be a social club for all the character it has!!!
I won't be returning. Whitton may not be known for great pubs but there are plenty better than here.

The Brewery Tap, Brentford

Hi Tylenchus,

Just to let you know that the dart board does get used from time to time (there's even a spot light that lights the board).
The table is just put there from time to time as it's moved out of other areas of the pub to make way for bands or quizes etc.
If you ask Brian (the Govenor) nicely or any of the staff I'm sure they will set the darts up for you and move the table etc. The only time it may be difficult to play darts may be when people are using the Pool table (as the room isn't the largest of rooms)

The Brewery Tap, Brentford

The 'pretty Ukrainian barmaid' is also my wife, so you can all put your eyes back into their eye sockets and concentrate on the beer instead!!! I play in one of the jazz bands that play at this pub so I hope I'm not at the bottom end of the 'varying quality' that is referred to on a previous post!!!
Having mentioned the beer I should say that it is excellent (they currently have a mini spring Beer festival - meaning that they are serving Fuller's: London Porter, India Pale Ale and Hock over the coming weeks)

This is in my opinion the best pub in Brentford (and it is up against some serious competition....as well as some not so serious competition). If you don't believe me then come down and give it a go. The staff and locals are friendly and will make you feel welcome.
