Worlds End, Almer
I've been coming to this pub since I was 17 (17 years ago!). It's my fave pub in Dorset!
I love the warm atmosphere, the lovely home-cooked food (not bunged in the microwave or taken out of the freezer like other big pub chains). They have a lovely range of real country wines in lots of lovely flavours. And a great range of real ales, plus all the usual popular drinks.
I've always found the staff to be polite and helpful, plus they have a good range of gluten/wheat free meals - which is so lovely to be able to choose without constant questions to the chef, and taking their life in your hands when you eat there (or eating Gammon - again!)
I disagree that it's not a proper pub, there's a bar, that you can sit at and a seperate eating area. OK, it is no smoking pub, but so what? Every where's going to be no smoking from this summer anyway; and for me there's nothing worse than tucking into a lovely meal only for it to be spoiled by a table of smokers lighting up (cos they've finished THEIR dinner) and tainting my food with their fowl smelling carcinogenic smoke.
Real open fires, lots of olde world fittings and the whole place is thatched, plus it's reputed to be the oldest pub in Dorset! The Wolds End gets a big thumbs up from me! I'll be going there for the next 17 years!
