The Landseer, Holloway
After reading such fantastic reviews on this site about the Landseer a group of us decided to visit earlier this evening to see if the place was really as good as its reviews.
Wow it was, and some!
The Landseer is a true Gastro in every sense of the word, though at the top end of the market, pricy but fair with it considering the ingredients used on the menu is top nosh.
We all choose to eat off the restaurant menu in the new dining area, which im told has only been open a couple of weeks by a very nice and polite waitress who served us all evening, yes we left a nice tip!
To start we had duck, rabbit and hare terrine, very nice, and razor clam chowder which was just as nice though i could have had it again for my main meal!
After that followed some excellent main courses, the blokes in our group went for the usual, steak! though it was by all accounts cooked perfectly and served with spinach, fat chips and a very moorish veal jus, which i tasted!
Jo and Sarah went for the bream fillet after seeing it arrive on the table next to us, it was served on a bed of thyme roasted parsnips with chestnuts and green beans, with a rocket sauce and some crisp thingies that towered above the fish!
I was stuck for choice as i love fish, in the end i went for the monkfish with rosti potato, crayfish pate and rocket pesto, beautiful! i wish my fella was a chef!
We were in a bit of a rush as time was pushing on so only two of us had dessert, Chocolate fondant with vanilla ice cream, always a winner, and baked fig tart with sherry syrup! i'll be back for that one again.
In fact we'll all be back this sunday for roast dinners and bloodly marys.
Overall a very good night, Food 9/10 Service 9/10.
P.S, i was told that the famous cat passed away two weeks ago, lets hope they adopt another moggie soon!
