The Woolpack, Banbury

I am very surprised by BeverleyH's comments.

The beer is outstanding! Well kept, well served, and a variety of ales to try. I have never, ever had a bad pint in there. I have had beer that didn't suit my taste, but that's the nature of real ale - and they always seem happy to give a taster in any case.

The staff definitely (with no "a") ARE female friendly - in fact I went there this evening for their Thursday-night special beer-batter haddock and chips (outstanding) with my wife, and noted that women outnumbered men. My wife pointed out that it's the only pub she's ever been into unaccompanied without feeling uncomfortable. As we left we bumped into a couple of female friends who'd met for a drink in the front bar.

I must take issue with the claim about the landlord's attention to Beverley's chest. This has caused some discussion in the pub, and the interesting thing is that if the date of the posting is correct then all the staff on when Beverley went into the pub were female! It is defamation to make statements such as this, and I would suggest that a timely apology and retraction might be the most sensible course of action. Webmaster please note your legal liability in this regard.

I agree with Beverley that the Reindeer is a good pub, with good beer, service and, I would also say, a great building, but I would certainly not agree that it is THE pub in Banburyshire - I personally like both of them very much, and am glad we've got two excellent pubs so near each other - although I only rarely get into the Reindeer.

I would argue strenuously that the Woolpack has the best beer in Banbury by a long way, bearing in mind quality and choice, while the Reindeer has very good quality beer, but fewer varieties. The food in the Woolpack is excellent, and I have never noticed any smell anywhere.

For the record, I am not connected with any pub, other than as a satisfied customer. Beverley, can you say the same?
