The Alehouse, Reading

Proper beer, tiny wee booths at the back, lots of wood and lots and lots of graffitti carved into it, including some very detailed sexual histories within phone numbers. Practially oustide toilets are very very cold though. Its well worth a visit.

The Battle Inn, Reading

oh noooo, not the battle inn. I simply won't drink in there again. The place is so bad that a beer there is an almost traumatic experience. You might get flashbacks or something. Its got a sale sign outside it now, which has been there for ages. Never a good sign that.

The RISC Global Cafe and Bar, Reading

food, beers, world music. It's worth a look anyway. Slightly too earnest and "shave the whales" type thing, but you can't argue with the beer selection and the quality of the food, which for the price, is very reasonable.

The Crown On The Bridge, Caversham

i'll go with the flow here, it is an odd pub, but not a bad pub, it's difficult to put your finger on the sublte "wrongness" about the place. Perhaps it's the jukebox with the aforementioned Neil Diamond loop, or the slightly sinister bar staff. But the wrongness is quiet addicitive, this pub is miles away from where i live and yet i've been loads of times. The beer is ok, it does food.

Sweeney and Todd, Reading

more of a pie shop and restarant than a pub, in fact the pub bit of the place is pretty poor, it's certainly very expensive anyway. The pies do make up for a lot though, they really are very very good and no trip to that part of town is really complete without at least a take-away pie from Sweeneys.

The Blagrave Arms, Reading

Nice one, looks ropey from the outside but is a great find once you get through the doors. Beers are good with weekly guest ales and well kept lagers. Pool tables, jukebox and lots of seating. I'm tempted to score it poorly to keep it to myself but thats unfair. One critism though is that it shuts early some nights because it's "QUIET", I can't help thinking that this is more for bar staff convienience rather than commerical sense.
