Nice change. Changing Ales. Not standard Pride and Doombar which you get every where. Ranmore making an regular appearance. Food and service on the up. Keep it up, way to go yet but now heading the right way.
Only one thing at the moment lets this down from being a nice place to drink. I was here Wednesday 29th October at lunchtime enjoying a beer. Most of the staff looked very busy. The foreign lady serving behind the bar kept disappearing and leaving the other staff to cover her. This seemed unfair as the place was very busy, and the way she talks to the staff if disgraceful. I had seen this before when she shouted at a male member of staff in front of the customers he was helping but it looks like she still does this. And her wastage is always on show never taken away.

When this pub was taken over the rumor was it was going to be a family run country pub, along the same lines as Ken ran a very lovely business.
Found an advert for staff... No experiance needed.. boy does that show. The staff can look right at you but still not see you. Only one original, Soon more staff than customers. This does not bode well for the future.
The pints are pulled flat and short. The new fruit juices are like drinking a cordial and very expensive. Not good value for money.
I know you have to try new things but this was a busy pub, which at the moment it still is but as said below, people are looking for other watering holes. Only need one of the others locally (and not the one just up the road as Badger) to buck their ideas up and we could see a rapid change.

Yes I agree the staff WERE friendly before the change over, the new staff are trying too hard and it shows. The young lads thats been there for years is good, glad to see they have keeped him on. Hope they look after him and he stays. In on Sunday mid afternoon, two ladies behind the bar both need to learn the trade before being let lose on customers. I will give it a few weeks before I return, Lets hope things improve.
Yes Jury out.

Just adding fuel to the flames....... The post from Annabee was posted in May this year..
Why wait about 4 month to reply, did it take this long for your beer soak brains to think of something ? And then the rest have to jump on the band wagon. This is Annabee's experiance. Put yours, Mine is I will never go in here all the time these people are in here. This is my personal opion. What reply am I going to get.. something like you not welcome here. oh well what a shame. Let the brian dead pick the bones out of this.

The staff do listen but team meetings should not be aired in the bar where everyone can hear. It is very uncomfortable to sit there and listen to her slag off the staff. as I said lets see what the next six months bring. Good Luck to anyone trying to make a go of a business in this day and age.

There must be a reason why she is no longer there. Jenny has no people skills with staff or customers but Owen is trying his best, Lets see how the next 6 months pan out. Small steps at a time.

Redjohn, maybe they only had a 6 monthly lease to see how they do, and now it will be extended. I notice you never have nice things to say only gossip. use a differant pub.

I have been outside this pub for the last two Fridays, waiting to pick up family members, no trouble, Disco this week, all left quietly, Police came round in the car, NO TROUBLE. Give the new tennet a go. reading some of sussexfox's other post's he/she is not happy with many of the places he visits, too much time on his hands to stir, mandraker always seem to post together with sussexfox.???? Talk about the beer not gossip.

I enjoy the Surrey Oaks a lot, I sometimes visit on a Saturday, What a diverse group of people. You have a couple that get in there, she is very domenering, When asked if she wants a drink, she snaps I'll have a half, then when asked if she would like a half she snap's that what I said, most weeks I have seen her she can only talk about her and her family. Alot of others sit away from her when they turn up. Then there is another couple a bit older, think used to to in the trade. They are funny to listen to, talking about other people in the pub. There is a large chap that gets in, sits on his own but then slowly moves into other peoples conversations. Seems to drink a lot, good to see he is limited when drinking and driving. With the fine beer choices, lovely location, very good food and the people watching all in all a lovely pub. Well worth a visit.

The Surrey Yeoman, Dorking
Not a great range of beer to be had here. Kept pretty well. Food average pub grub.
Who is the new regular they have. Older chap walking sticks.. What a strange guy. He does not seem the full ticket. one to be wary off I think.
