Name change to Sugarloaf ...... a refurbishment as well, but no real change
29 Dec 2014 16:03
I meant Spread Eagle ... not Whaite Hart!! What a fool I am :-)
29 Dec 2014 12:39
'fusedplug' good news BTW ... two other pubs in Rayleigh now have a jukebox! White Hart and Crown.
29 Dec 2014 12:37
First time I have been to this establishment. Nice beer garden.
20 May 2014 09:48
Interesting pub/cafe type establisment. No real ale on my visit, but plenty of lager choices. Food on offer included horse meat burgers. Mmmmm
5 Feb 2014 12:51
Pauline is a top landlady. Bar billiards, darts, beer and lager.
15 Jan 2014 13:16
Monkdawallydahonk ... I popped in here before ColU vs Gillingham and we won!! Change your routine!! Not a bad pub, but as you say there are better in town.
15 Jan 2014 13:12
Had six GK beers on the handle last time I visited. Looks like they are making an effort. Food looked good as well!!
15 Jan 2014 13:08
Attracting an affluent crowd. Beer and lager choice varied. Clean. Garden. Only downside, is that seating is at a premium!
13 May 2013 11:50
No real surprise for clientale, beer, food or cleanliness. All fair to middling!
13 May 2013 11:48
Popped in here for first time in yonks. Great for pool, fruit machines and TV. Everyone friendly.
13 May 2013 11:46
Rumours that this establishment is ear marked as a Prezzo for 2013 :-(
10 Jan 2013 13:49
Williamson's Tavern, Mansion House
Top tip ...always go to the back bar. More staff and less punters !! Saves a 5 minute wait to get served.
24 May 2012 08:22
Great night at The Sea Horse last night. Staff there are the best in The City.
24 May 2012 08:19
Popped in recently and seemed very friendly. Nice mixed clientale. Maybe pub has turned the corner?
28 Dec 2011 10:53
The Two Brewers, Covent Garden
Great atmosphere on a Sunday night. An ad-hoc sing along with punters pulled from crowd to perform with regular musicians. Fabulous. Beer was great as well.
11 Jul 2011 15:25
I found this pub by chance whilst wandering the streets of London. What a gem. Decor and ambiance of a bygone era. I was well impressed. Beer not to shabby either.
11 Jul 2011 15:20
Comedy nights are great. An Irish comedian, Simon, is normally on the bill and can be a right chortle !!
28 Jun 2011 12:09
Darts board, comfy seats and all round good atmosphere. However the toilets are a smidge grotty. Maybe best to aim for the one trap. Otherwise don't wear open toe sandals !!
31 Jan 2011 12:59
The Railway Bell, South Woodford
Nice atmosphere. Kronny 1664 is extremly cold though !! :-)
31 Jan 2011 12:57
The Three Colts, Buckhurst Hill
Unbelievably busy when I popped in here at 6pm on a Saturday. Throbbing. Football etc. Worth a visit
31 Jan 2011 12:55
MMMmm. Typical Toby pub. Beer is certainly not the priority.
31 Jan 2011 12:53
Very chilled atmosphere. Ask for a half of any real ale, and you get a mini jug. Not seen one of these for years !!
31 Jan 2011 12:52
Very impressive range of pool/darts trophies. No real ale on my visit
31 Jan 2011 12:50
The bright lights and new furniture are stand out features of this pub !!
30 Dec 2010 09:14
Pub has re-opened recently as a Gastro type venue. Service is great.
23 Jul 2010 11:22
This is still the best pub in The City. One of the few with a dartsboard.
8 Jul 2010 13:31
Thought this was a really good venue. Lots to do. Only downside was 3 a shot of Sourc ... but I doubt many readers of this site will care about this drink !
7 Jul 2010 13:50
Dark even on the sunniest day. Nice 7 minimum charge rule for soft drinks during World Cup matches!
7 Jul 2010 13:48
Does need a clean !! Friday/Saturday night entertainment is superb in comparison to the rest of Rayleigh's venues.
10 Jul 2009 16:07
Carvery type establishment. Nice front lawn, but not really worth swerving off the drag unless you have hunger pains !!
10 Jul 2009 16:06
I agree with Rod. This is an extremly hard establishment to locate. Very friendly family run enterprise, though the lack of draught lager may dissappoint some :-(
30 Jun 2009 08:54
Redesdale Arms, Moreton-In-Marsh
Very clean bar. Certainly devoid of atmosphere, but nice for a spot of grub ... or even to stay !!
20 Apr 2009 13:34
Unusual array of spirits. Smirnoff Gold evident. Worth a visit.
11 Mar 2009 13:29
I know who 'Love_Good_Ale' is !! I'll try and bring him along pre-Colchester vs Scunny this Saturday !!!
17 Dec 2008 13:09
I must admit the food choice, though limited, is top whack !! Beer not bad either !!!
17 Dec 2008 13:05
Mr Foley's Cask Ale House, Leeds
I feel sorry for 'love_good_ale' ... try Wetherspoons round the corner. Open early on a Saturday.
17 Dec 2008 13:03
Moon On The Square, Northampton
Yes the alcholics in the front of this pub should be screened off !!
29 Oct 2008 15:36
Food is good ... but apart from that !! Avoid the toilets especially !!
21 Oct 2008 13:01
The British Grenadier, Colchester
I see Ade has now become a regular now after the closure of the Pink Panther. Shame on him !!
21 Oct 2008 10:28
Just been refurbished. Really is a lively place. Attracts all sorts. Worth a visit.
25 Jun 2008 12:27
I must have gone on a good day, looking at other remarks !!?? Prices ridiculously cheap. Clientale and staff very nice. Bit tatty, but not too bad.
25 Jun 2008 12:16
Fantastic pub. Really busy on a Thursday. Try and go to top bar. Smashing barmaid called Lucie serving, but be careful ...... always a short guy (She calls him Newbo, I think) boring her !!!
23 Apr 2008 09:01
Goats cheese sandwich with a pint .... absolute dream at this pub !!
18 Apr 2008 08:57

7 Feb 2008 13:48

The Lord Aberconway, Liverpool Street
Great atmosphere. So much better since the smoking ban !!
15 Nov 2007 12:43
Popped in the other Sunday. Lots of staff sickness. 20 minutes to get served. Try Fox & Fiddler.
8 Nov 2007 11:00
Whatever your age, you'll look young in this pub!! Not changed since I first visited in the mid-1990s. Bottle fridge maybe an entrant in Antiques Roadshow !!
31 Jul 2007 13:04
The Marlborough Head, Rochford
Much better since smoking ban! Jukebox is best in Town. Visit !!
31 Jul 2007 13:02
Quite amazing. DJ Alec the Goat on a Saturday is well worth a visit on his own with his vinyl only policy. RA was off when I went there, but comedy value counter-balanced this...
31 Jul 2007 13:01
Quite fantastic!! Lots of real ales and unusual (for Essex) lagers. Live music is top whack. Dave Woodcock on a Sunday evening is well worth a visit ...
31 Jul 2007 12:59
Interesting pink decor. Karaoke on a Sunday is always fun !!
31 Jul 2007 12:56
Used to be regular in thate 90s , so popped back last week . Sure decor is same , but still a great place . However , I bet it closes down in next year or so and changes into yet another seafront block of flats !!! doom and Gloom !!
27 Sep 2006 13:28
Actually stayed at this venue . Rooms good . Bar staff seem very friendly ...though sticky tables for brekkie did not go down with Mrs too well !!!
27 Sep 2006 13:26
This pub shoulkd be noted for it's quality food/large portions !!!
27 Sep 2006 13:25
The decor for this pub is the charm . Fantastic range of ales plus , if I'm not mistaken , the only ColU venue that offers Red Stripe on draught !! Do pop in2 the men's loos ... as I dare any1 to have a number two , as the trap is partially encased in glass/window panelling !!! MMMMMMmmmm
27 Sep 2006 13:20
Pop down on Sunday eve to see the clientale....PRICELESS !!!
27 Sep 2006 13:17
Now Fat Cat . Unbelievable range of ales ... get there now before it becomes too popular !!!
27 Sep 2006 13:10
The Broadgate Exchange, Broadgate
Tried the Stella last night ... no bubbles !! In fact all the lagers were flat . Usual mosh for a Summer's night . Mr Lash is spot on with all his comments AVOID AVOID AVOID !!
28 Jul 2006 12:56
The Ferryboat Inn, North Fambridge
Great position for a pub . I took 20 minute stroll from rail station for this oasis . Well worth it !!
26 Jul 2006 13:18
The Falcon Hotel, Southend on Sea
Ridley's most southerly pub.....until it becomes a GK !!
26 Aug 2005 12:26
The Hope Hotel, Southend on Sea
Les the DJ (Weekends) is a must to chat to !! Any song will be played , if you slip him a pint !! I got him to play 'Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now' by The Smiths...surely a first for a DJ !! He also knows a lot about mushroom farms. This guy is TOPS !!
26 Aug 2005 12:24
This is the best place for a laugh . Pop in here late at night to see some right states on the dancefloor . I remember the days of Motels...99p a pint ... BRING THEM BACK !!
26 Aug 2005 12:23
Food orientated establisment with huge garden . Surprised it hasn't been sold off for housing !!
26 Aug 2005 12:14
An up turn in fortunes . The new landlords have put This Charming Man by The Smiths on the jukebox !!
26 Aug 2005 12:11
The Oakwood Public House, Eastwood
Great atmosphere !! Good for live weekend music .
26 Aug 2005 12:10
Turned into a Hungry Horse establishment , but retains a good drinkers contingent . ps Very hard to get your daily five fruit and veg off this menu !! Chips..chips..chips !!
23 Aug 2005 12:32
This pub has fantastic rail memrobilia ... if you're that way inclined !!
23 Aug 2005 12:30
The Hare and Hounds, Layer Breton
This pub had one of the best landlords ever . But he's hung up his glasses this year (2005) . Beer not as good .... bound to turn into a retaurant ...WATCH THIS SPACE . The locals make this pub .....
23 Aug 2005 12:28

19 Aug 2005 13:23
Andy the landlord is always trying to give punters freebies . Don't be shy to ask !! Great pub !!
19 Aug 2005 13:19
This must be the worst Yates pub !! Try not to stick to carpet as u walk in !! Normally understaffed .. and not unusual to close early on a Sunday evening due to 'staff training' (read as 'no-one can be arsed to work late') . SWERVE !!!
19 Aug 2005 13:17
The Fox and Fiddler, Colchester
Best landlord (Jeff) in Town . Knows his real ale !!
19 Aug 2005 13:12

19 Aug 2005 13:10
Not a bad place !! pool and jukebox available...nearly unique in Colchester !!
19 Aug 2005 13:09
Does anyone go here anymore ? Never see any punters in the place !!
19 Aug 2005 13:08
The Faunus & Firkin, Colchester
Pub has just changed name to After Office Hours (Chain of 2 !!!) . Juke box gone . Light coloured plush seating . Nice and clean at moment....but wait for the wine spillages !!
19 Aug 2005 13:06
The Green Man, Bank
I really rate this Spoons. Always use the downstairs bar if you want speedy service and a better choice of beers.
