the Galloway Eagle round the corner from pubs in maxwellton High st. is bigger and more modern . However it is also fun.

great snug, real fire , lots of warrier poet locals and tourists. Maxwellton was a seperate town till 1929 and of course it was in wild Galloway so Burn's Thos carlisle ,and will shakespeare when he did scotland all had an ale or wine here. Being a bit less regulated than Dumfries ,livelier music ,wenches and shows. that's why 5 pubs are tucked in together along with the briggend theatre and Burn's cinema. hotspot

nice smoking area , usual high standards of weatherspoons but i was tickled when they had plaques up describing the trouble they went to cleaning the paint of a beautifull red sandstone building, hope they never repaint

has put up plaques of interest about the writer and town resident j.m. Barrie and his connection with the town. The gardens of moat house were the inspiration for Peter pan his most famous character. Nice touches like that make a pub and the Waverley is neat .

in this weekends beer festival organised by camra it will win the smelliest toilet and most urgently needs the nicoteine yellow repainted fresh ,then charm school for the staff who r more interested in gossip than elbow grease and customer service.
