The Bear, Stratford

The best pub in Stratford upon Avon. 6 real ales... with an emphasis on local brews. Cracking food, top class service and a lovely ambience. Great for watching sport or sitting outside watching the river flow by.

The Golden Bee, Stratford Upon Avon

The quality of the beer in the GB has been excellent recently - Thwaites Flying Shuttle, Nethergate Umbel Ale and even GK Abbot Ale have all been in very good nick.

They did a good job of a recent beer festival - Everards Terra Firma a particular highlight.

My main gripe (and it's only a small one) is that the pump clips aren't turned round when a beer is off.

The Three Tuns, Alcester

Completely agree with RogerB's assessment.

Excellent pub, wonderful ale.

10/10

I still prefer the Holly Bush though!

The Wellington, Birmingham

Superb. 12 beers on. Tried 6 of them. All of them great, especially the Pig on the Wall mild.

The cat was about too... anyone know its name?

10/10 - outstanding!

The Market Porter, Borough

Fantastic pub! Had a pint of Summer Lightning here on Saturday afternoon. Busy inside but got served pretty quick. Stood outside and watched the world go by. Marvellous!

The Garrick Inn, Stratford Upon Avon

Nice place to drink but it is right on the tourist trail.

The guest ale is always the one to go for. I can't stand Greene King!

The Old Thatch Tavern, Stratford Upon Avon

You can usually count on a good pint of Tiger from Everard here. The little courtyard area is quite nice.

The Rose And Crown, Stratford Upon Avon

Went in on a Wednesday night - quiz night. Lovely pint of IPA from the St Austell brewery (I forget the name). Only one other beer on though, Courage Directors, which my friend said wasn't great.

The Golden Bee, Stratford Upon Avon

They've had some cracking beers on recently...

Cain's Lager, Butcombe Bitter, Marston's Old Empire and Purity UBU.

The staff seem to be getting more and more eastern...

The One Elm, Stratford Upon Avon

Been in here several times now and it's one of my regular places in Stratford. The UBU is always top notch. Service pretty good and the atmosphere all the better for the smoking ban. 9/10

The Mug House Inn, Bewdley

Lovely little pub. Great pint of HPA and the missus enjoyed her pint of Wood's Quaff.

The Holly Bush, Alcester

There's not many better pubs in the county - probably the whole country.

Eight real ales (yes, eight!), including the heavenly local Purity beers, Uley bitter and an ever changing line up of guests. There's a great pilsner for the lager lovers - Veltins. All beers are kept superbly. The staff are great and you can get good quality pork scratchings too!

After work, there's nothing better than sitting at the bottom of the beer garden and soaking up the sun!

10/10 - can't give it anything less

The New Bulls Head, Stratford Upon Avon

Just to update my earlier review. I have since eaten in the West End and the food was fantastic - rump steak with peppercorn sauce.

I have been in here several times and the beer is always excellent. I think Old Spot could be the best beer served in Stratford. The service is never less than excellent.

A great place to relax, chat with friends, eat and drink.

The Hole in the Wall, Stratford Upon Avon

Dark, dingy, bland. No ale although the pint of Kirin Ichiban (3) I had was passable though.

One Elm is much better.

11 Apr 2007 16:43

The Cross Keys, Stratford Upon Avon

No ale on tap. Horribly smoky. Cramped (the football was on). Barman sporting Burberry. Kids with dodgy ID drinking in there. Avoid.

The One Elm, Stratford Upon Avon

Went in here one Saturday lunchtime, just before Christmas. Had some very good Purity UBU. Service was fine but the beers were expensive (2.90 each ISTR).

The Lamplighters, Stratford Upon Avon

Weird kind of place. Complete mix of people in there - Chinese students, a group of middle-aged women, old couples, rockers. Felt a bit open and too bright.

Beer was OK, nothing special.

The Throckmorton Arms, Coughton

Took my parents here for Sunday lunch. Brilliant place - great beer, friendly staff, beautiful decor. Sunday lunch was excellent. Highly recommended.

20 Nov 2006 17:21

The Turks Head, Alcester

Had a swift drink in here at Sunday lunchtime. Small, cosy little pub that was nicely busy. The beer (Hereford Pale Ale) was fantastic and the menu (not sampled) looked well worth a try.

20 Nov 2006 17:18

The Old Thatch Tavern, Stratford Upon Avon

Had a great pint of Shakesbeer's Taming of the Brew in here. Bit quiet and empty when I was in but the wood fire was lit and the chavs outside were providing ample entertainment.

20 Nov 2006 17:11

The Queens Head, Stratford Upon Avon

Had a very average pint of Adnams in here a couple of weeks ago. Very smoky and only to be recommended if you like getting your eardrums abused by tone-deaf locals.

20 Nov 2006 17:05

The Golden Bee, Stratford Upon Avon

I tried it again a couple of weeks later - no ales at all (this was Friday night). Walked straight out.

20 Nov 2006 16:51

The Rose And Crown, Stratford Upon Avon

Very much a foody pub. Just went in there Sunday afternoon for a quick pint. I had the IPA and my GF had the Director's. Both were good although I'm not 100% sure my beer was actually IPA.
There were quite a few people having the carvery at the time. Service was fine (I think the manager was around). Certainly not as bad as the review from 03/10/06 would suggest.

12 Nov 2006 09:57

The Windmill, Stratford Upon Avon

Fairly bland and inoffensive. The beer (Ruddles County) was OK... only 2 a pint on a Wednesday night.

Oh, mind your head when you approach the bar!

3 Nov 2006 16:49

Caz Bar , Stratford Upon Avon

Closed. Soon to be a strip club.

31 Oct 2006 11:52

The New Bulls Head, Stratford Upon Avon

Went in here on a Wednesday night. The place was quite full with people eating. Not too many just drinking. Had 3 beers - Timothy Taylor Landlord (possibly off, maybe just stale), Adnams Explorer (very good), and Pig's Ear (also very good).

It's a nice relaxed place, not too smokey, big comfy settees and a more mature clientele. Decor is straight out of an Ikea catalogue!

The food looked very good from what I saw. Well worth a look.

31 Oct 2006 11:42

The Golden Bee, Stratford Upon Avon

Went in on a Saturday. Place was heaving with chavs and chavettes. However, the beers we tried were both superb - my GF had a porter and I tried the UBU. Nice and cheap too - 3.72 for 2 pints in rip-off Britain ain't half bad.

Just pick the correct time to go!

26 Oct 2006 13:21

The Dirty Duck, Stratford Upon Avon

Had a couple of good pints of Flowers in here a couple of weeks ago. Nice atmosphere. Good fun trying to recognise all the luvvies on the wall.

26 Oct 2006 13:16

The Kings Head, Guildford

Still the best pub in Guildford. Took my parents there on Saturday for food and they loved it.

Went there again later on and it was the landlord and landlady's leaving do. They had live music (Gavin and His Guitar?) and the place was packed. I just hope whoever takes it over can keep up the high standards.

15 Aug 2006 15:08

The Prince Albert, Guildford

Went in there a while ago. The beer was good - a lesser known local brew. The decor and the clientele are all ancient. It's very much a locals pub and will be severely affected when the smoking ban comes into force next summer.

15 Aug 2006 14:53

The Royal Oak, Guildford

Great little pub. Beer is fantastic and the girl that served me was very friendly. Try the Prize Old Ale (bottle beer - 9%)... tastes like sherry. The Discovery is fantastic. They have live music too... I saw a guy doing blues stuff - great gravelly voice!

31 May 2006 17:49

The Star Inn, Guildford

If you like your crowd studenty and weird this is your place. Beer is average.

31 May 2006 17:42

The White House, Guildford

Good Fuller's pub (not as good as the King's Head on Stoke Road though). The GF spotted 3 girls who could be in Hollyoaks in there!

31 May 2006 17:40

The Keystone, Guildford

Introduced to this place by my housemate. Only had a quick pint in there but it was good (Black Sheep... down south?!?!).

31 May 2006 17:38

The George Abbot, Guildford

Been in here briefly a couple of times now. The TEA is great. Food is OK ISTR. They wouldn't show the cricket when the wendyball final was on though.

31 May 2006 17:37

Pews, Guildford

Went in here on a Sunday night. Nice atmosphere - beer was OK (I was drinking the Guinness) but the Spanish DJ was playing his music incredibly loud... what's the point on a Sunday night???

31 May 2006 17:35

The Stoke, Guildford

Another great Guildford pub. Been in there a couple of times. The beer (Young's, London Pride, Greene King IPA) is very good and the pizzas are superb. 2 for 1 on big thin-crust pizzas on Monday night is the bargain of the week.

I like the segregation in the pub - smoking, pool tables and wendyball on the TV in one part; subdued lighting, big settees and no smoking in the other.

The pub quiz is good fun on a Tuesday night too.

24 Mar 2006 10:34

The Kings Head, Guildford

Excellent pub with well kept Fuller's ales. The Chiswick and London Pride are both fantastic. I think they also have a guest ale.

The food is top notch pub grub - e.g. gourmet burgers, homemade chilli con carne - very reasonable prices too. Nice atmosphere too: good mix of people and nicely busy on weeknights. The bar staff are efficient and friendly and the landlady is gorgeous!

There is a big TV but it's not the best place to watch football in. However, if that's what you want you're probably better off in some lager pit anyway.

I would give it 10 out of 10 if they had a no smoking policy.
