Harpoon Louis, Taunton

Friendly atmosphere and quirky bar serice. Fine pair of local ales from the cask on the bar and an excellent range of �6 pies served with mash and mushy peas. I would have preferred a smoke-free approach to the pub rather than enterring for an external corridor filled with smokers. Once inside, however, we were delighted.

The Arboretum, Ipswich

The new owners have done a great job. The changes are essentially cosmetic. Three Adnams ales on handpump. An international range of bottled beers.

The Half Moon, Walton

Patrick, the publican, runs a wonderful friendly traditional drinking house. The Thursday night quiz is justly popular. The ale is always in excelent condition and pubs like this are a national treasure.
