The New Dungeon Ghyll Hotel, Langdale
Top 5 in country no doubt - great beer- proper drinkers pub, no Chavs, perfect location to lay back after an arduous hike up Ska Fell

Visited the Anchor several times while on Hols. Great draft Beer- well kept, good selection of Whiskeys, and food very good for the price.
Has a snug cosy lounge for the food, a less snug extra food lounge, and a bar for the drinkers. The locals were v friendly once they realised you weren't an american tourist & weren't going to patronise them. Some great yarns kept us entertained till the early hours. Well worth the 3 mile walk from St Abbs- treacherous on the way there, seemed a stroll on the way back.

The Iron Horse, Amersham
Difficult to match the adrenalin of going into the Iron Lung at aged 15, with the challenge of getting served (actually that bit was usually easy) and avoiding trouble with the hard looking locals.
In reality everyone was probably in the same boat - trying to outstare everybody else- so it rarely got too hairy.
And the atmosphere successfully repelled the Kevins (modern day Chavs)into Annies Wine Bar & the Boot & Sharon, to leave behind a decent drinking crowd with plenty of personality.
Coupled with the unusually tasty beer, it will be hard to beat, and sadly missed.
