The Old Crown, Hesket Newmarket
Anywhere that has porter on tap is immediately in the running to be nominated as my Perfect Pub. The fact that this is in the Lake District, in a dreamy little village, is obviously the centre of local life and has its own brewery out back must surely make the 'Old Crown' top dog.

Technically my local (refuse to have anything to to with Jeremiah Bullfrogs), and the only thing which makes living in Mill Hill bearable. It serves Youngs Ordinary. The food is often quite good. The regulars seem jolly. Appealing barmaids. And Harry Potter's stunt-double always serves with a smile. Physically and metaphorically perched high above the deserts of North West London.

Following a bust-up with the missus in the Black Horse one night, I meandered home feeling sorry for myself when I stumbled across this place. Had lived in Barnet for over a decade and never knew it existed! My dark mood lighten at first sight, and brightened completly upon stepping inside. A gem! Long may it continue to bring such unexpected joy to the wandering, commitment-shy curmudgeons of North London such as myself.

Carpenters Arms, Camberley
Spent a slightly boozy Saturday afternoon in here with the Dogger.
We made the disasterous discision to have a fry-up with our splendid pints of Hog's Back (fry-ups and ale a bad combination make). Shame, because this agreeable little spot was made into something very special by the utterly delighful barmaid and her tremendous charms.
Will propose to her next time I'm in the area before Dogger does.
