The Abbey Arms, Colchester

This pub has excellent Miller draft lager - and possibly the best value Sunday dinners in the civilised world. Check out the odd inhabitants of the fish tank, and feel free to ask about the Hammers at the bar... if they are playing well!

The Lyceum, Strand

Quality cheep beer (never a bad pint in 10 years), and always good conversation with a healthy mix of locals and tourists. This pub has a superb atmosphere for a central London boozer.

Oh, and an excellent landlord. Who bought me a pint last night to say that!
