Don't Bother! We were trying to get a bit of lunch and a drink at 1.30 on a weekday recently, so we stayed despite the empty restaurant area and lack of staff. Bad mistake, but by the time we knew it, it was too late to move on. Whatever we ordered was unavailable and the service was poor - they were taking their delivery in (loudly) past our table. But that didn't excuse cremated battered (stale) fish and chips and a very long, long wait. They dropped the puds (I would have fled after the first mouthful of the mains, but we had a guest so it was difficult) and swore loudly, then a long while later came to us with what they must have had left to try and make an Eton Mess from. A plateful of whipped up cream and some sad berries and we played 'hunt the meringue'. Ugh.Staff wandered around looking stressed and I give it a 1 rating only for the good quality vanilla ice cream. The bar area was like the 'land that time forgot'. Abandon hope all ye who enter here.... A waste of time and money, sad, we have a catering background so can be forgiving, but this was too much. No response to my complaint to head office, either.

The pub was cold and guests were prevented from adding wood to the small fire; the red wine was ice cold, and although our main courses were ok, at those prices could have been served with a little elegance. Sweets in glass bowls were put directly on to the table without a plate underneath. Sounds picky, yes, but it just wasn't professionally served. Nice enough staff, but not enough management, and acceptable food - my steak came well done, not medium-rare as asked; On paying, I complained about the child sized scoops of ice cream to a young man who was profoundly uninterested in my feedback. Not a good way to keep our goodwill. It's gone downhill since our first visit a couple of years ago, and 2 courses, 1 wine, 2 soft drinks & 2 coffees came to just under 50. Well overpriced, no wonder it was half empty on a friday lunch time. Nothing very wrong with it, but still, disappointing.

We've been looking for a 'proper' local since we moved to Worthing, and now we've found it - although it was a quiet night when we visited, the atmosphere was excellent, the staff pleasant, and the menu looks good enough for us to come back for a meal. A lovely, traditional pub. So glad we dropped in.

On a beautiful autumn afternoon we were looking for a table in the sunshine with a pleasant view, good atmosphere and great food. We got all three at a fair price. Although the pub was busy serving Sunday lunches, it only took 20 minutes to cook duck breast beautifully pink and the veggies were still nice and crunchy, the roast pork was great and the portions were generous. Staff were efficient and the landlady was friendly. We'll go back again with guests any time, and be happy to sit inside when the weather changes.

Excellent carvery lunch, great flavours, big portions, worth 9.25 per head - we were served without delays even on Easter Sunday when they were very busy and had two sittings, it was a great atmosphere, and we like the extraordinary decorations of all the old sports memorabilia. Friendly happy place to be, tucked away, hidden secret.
