I've been there several lunchtimes with walking groups and we all rate this pub highly for its beer, food and view of Kerridge from the conservatory.

The Rose and Crown Inn, Allgreave

Changed hands 8 weeks ago. Tried it yesterday lunchtime in group of twelve. Good food, friendly new host and cook, beer OK (new barrel), fine view.

The Hanging Gate, Sutton

Took my wife and inlaws on a quiet Saturday (24th July) and waited an hour for food to arrive - no apology - the landlady held my wife to blame for choosing steak and ale pie, then suggested we buy a cold starter to fill in the time, rejecting my sister-in-laws suggestion that it be "on the house". The beer and view from the restaurant were fine, but the restaurant was cold and the food mediocre. Prior visits midweek for bar meals have been better, although the landlady is inescapable. I prefer the Rose and Crown, Allgreave, which I tried yesterday for the first time and which also has a nice view.
