As you can tell from the photograph, a pleasant enough looking boozer this, and it's a similar story inside. Roaring real fire in winter, decent garden in summer. Good selection of beers and an above-average wine-list for a pub. They've got bar billiards as well!! The landlord and his girlfriend are really friendly folk... hence my quick one before heading back to London became 4 or 5!!

The Rose and Crown, Rickmansworth
Wonderful decor, utterly unique. All beers well-kept and service can't be faulted. A great pub. Ferociously gay but don't let that put you off.

well well well... who'd have thought it, they've gastroed up the Falcon! imagine my surprise when i popped in yesterday (purely to use the pool tables) and found couples and families seated at tables chomping on organic beef and locally growen garden vegetables! they've got an up and coming "name" chef in, the works! chucked out the pool and fruities, this ain't a half-way house move!!
dunno if crack-flavoured ice-cream was on the menu, it shoulda been

The Salusbury is going along nicely... i was in there after a gap of at least a year this weekend and the things that make it great are all still in evidence. I don't know when exactly it went gay but that would never affect my opinion on a place... vive la difference i say! great food, beer as excellent as it always was, and a great buzz around the bar area (yes I was chatted up!)

The Spotted Bull, Hemel Hempstead
Still Hertfordshire's premier gay venue.. but don't be put off if like me you're straight, there's a welcoming atmosphere for all. Particularly good food from the carvery, and service is excellent - totally genuine. Recommend to anyone

The Reef Bar, Victoria Station
Back in the days when I used to socialise with workmates this was the place to be. Now shut - a sign from above

never made it into this baby
Incidentally... in case you were wondering, i've jsut been reading about Lord Burleigh... aka William Cecil, one of the most influential men in the Elizabethan Court... amongst other things, he was largely responsible for the execution of Mary Queen of Scots. It does crease me up that a man who bestrode 16-century England has been immortalized in the form of a hole-in-the-wall boozer on Vauxhall Bridge Road..... but then...you never know, he might have been a pub man... who can say?

It's a decent little gaff this, with a bit of everything... you can get a bit of privacy in one of the half-booths, there's a decent TV in there, the staff are generally friendly. It gets very busy before during and after performances at the Victoria Palace Theatre across the road - this may or may not be a selling point, depends how much you like crowds!
Incidentally this is possibly the first pub I ever drank on my own in - on my way to a party age 17, many moons before it became a way of life!
