Big pub, easy to get a seat with a groups of people in the slightly sterile surroundings. The food is Wetherspoonsy but passable. Where the Southern Cross wins big in the very large selection of decent ales - probably the best in Watford.

The place is dirt cheap and, to be fair, Wetherspoons will at least give you a couple of decent guests ales to try.
Used to be called the Moon Under Age locally and when i first moved to watford was mazed to see a little speccy Harry Potter staggering from the bar with an armful of pints for his chums. Seems a bit better on that front now.
It's better in the evening with a mixed crowd but if you pop in for a cheap lunch out it's a bit soul-crushing with loads of old trampy blokes and benefits sick-listers boozing away in the bar area.
At times I've noticed the bar staff are terrible - they just chuck any untrained kid out there but recently this has been tightened up and service isn't too bad for a chain bar.
Smells nicer after the smoking ban, which is good.

Big huge grimey pub next to Watford Junction. The beer selection is poor and the food ropey. Still, fairly good underground bands appear here from time to time - I've give this place 6/10 as Watford needs live venues.

I've never really got Bodegas, although many of my friends, colleagues and aquintences seem to love it - although the most-cited good point is that 'chavs' have been economically cleansed from the establishment. You'll be shocked by MASSIVE prices for drinks, feel claustrophobic when it's elbow crowded on busy nights and realise it's lacking in all atmosphere. Hate getting dragged here by Bodegas fans... it's rubbish...

Used to be a dodgy locals joint but now taken over by the people behind the much-missed Taylor's Bar. It's been there since may but it took me a chance stroll by to notice it. It's small by the amience is relaxing and there's something good on every night. Compared to the old Taylor's it's perhaps a bit more adult (not such a bad thing - Taylor's was sometimes filled with just-old-enough anti-fit jeans'n'floppy fringed scenester-kids some nights) and, dare I say it, 'trendy' - I've heard live and DJed acid-jazz type stuff when I've been in there. On Thursday there's a laid-back open mic night by Harmonica Lewinsky, which is worth a visit.
Oh, and they have Spitfire and Green King so you can get a decent ale. One lunch I popped in for a gourmet burger and it was of high quality.
As a beer fan a few more ales would be nice but that's nit-picking - it's a great alternative to what Watford currently offers.

The One Crown, Watford
Good little traditional local's pub with friendly, relaxed atmosphere. Only Jack-O-Legs for the beer fan, though.
