My wife and I popped in for lunch with our baby a few days after the smoking ban started. It looks great inside with recent refit and very family-friendly with new high chairs. The lady behind the bar even came out with a toy for our son which was nice. Very pleasant, nice beer, excellent food and not overly expensive. Very impressed overall compared to before and happy to recommend!

The Weir Hotel, Walton on Thames
I popped in for a Sunday lunchtime beer and was astonished to have to stand in the queue for 25 minutes along with those ordering food! All I wanted was a pint! What is going on?!!
Surely it's not too much to ask to have a separate queue for food and a couple more bar staff at busy times. Absolutely ridiculous! I won't be going there again in a hurry.
The trouble is, it's not a bad pub, great location, non-smoking inside, child-friendly, good range of ales, it's not cheap but I don't mind paying for quality. But until they sort out the queueing system I wont be back.

The pub gets by because of its size and location. Beers are ok, staff can be hit and miss, but avoid the food at all costs. Overpriced, little selection and less than adequate quality. Great for a few beers in the garden in the summer, but that's about all.

The Wellington, Walton on Thames
Vast improvement since refurbishment. Better seating layout, good atmosphere the few times I've popped in. Before it was as if you were walking into someone's front room, but not any more. Looks like they have closed the Thai kitchen and are opening some sort of Deli bar instead, could be interesting to see...

The Slug and Lettuce, Walton on Thames
London West End prices in a local high street pub. Not bad inside but a bit impersonal. Doesn't feel like you are in Walton. Tries to be something it's not with bouncers at weekends. Toilets always seem to be flooded. Great food but not cheap.

Under new management since Dec04, things really seem to be improving now, they are trying to attract a slightly older customer, no more DJ nights or sky sports etc. They intend to revert to calling it The Plough, nice log fire, fresh coat of paint and much cleaner inside and also home-cooked food coming soon, I was pleasantly surprised. Well worth another look

The Barley Mow, Hersham
Decent enough pub, better than the Watermans but not as good as the Bricklayers. It seems to have inherited the customers from the Old House at Home since it was closed down,.
Strangely they are also happy to show live premier league footy at 3pm on a Saturday - surely this is illegal?
