I agree with the previous review "The landlord makes you feel about as welcome as a clouwn at a funeral" What a shame this pub was very good 25 years ago.

Beer is quite good, food is cooked from frozen. nothing special. Several years ago this pub was good.

This pub is the best example of what a pub should be, with great atmosphere especially if you are a real ale fan. Very friendly staff and landlord who always make me and my friends feel welcome, that's why we keep going back there when ever we can. You should try this if you enjoy a pint or two.

I have lived in this area for some 20 plus years and have visited this pub on many occasions and it was top notch until the current owner /manager sarted working there.
I did keep going there until I felt unwelcome, please read on!
This manager/owner gives you the feeling that they want you to have a meal and maybe one or two drinks and then go.
Probably best not to go there for a few pints with friends unless you are going to eat. If you do eat there you will most likely get cooked frozen food not home cooked as advertized.
Better value at a Harvester for food and there are several real ale pubs nearby who are very friendly with fantastic beer/ale.

How very dissappointing when looking at how much effort and money has gone into redecorating and refurbishing this pub to be let down so badly with food that is boardering on inedible.
My wife and I visited the pub for lunch, I might add I think we were the only people in the pub apart from the staff and ordered 2 main course dishes ( 1 each) which were both pie dishes. The chicken and ham pie I had seemed to be made of a sauce that was something close to PVA woodglue as it was very dry. Both of the pies presented had large crusts of pasty whcih were obviously cooked seperatly which when cut exploded into crumbs and was very difficult to eat. One of the worse parts of this meal was the inedible vegetables which were served seperately. The carrot mash tasted of nothing and I had to ask my wife what it was, further to that how a "chef" could ruin cauliflower to the point that it was inedible is beyond belief. How is it possible to mess up vegatables if you call yourself a chef?
Whilst we were eating I am sure the 2 staff members who seemed to be doing very little must have overheard us complaining quietly to each other about this meal and did not even both to ask if the meal was OK.
If I owned this pub I would want to knoe about this.
When I went to the bar to pay for the meal which should have been about 14 (7 per main course) I was intialy asked to pay more than 18 presumably for someones elses meal. At that point I questioned the bill and with a slight apology the error was sorted and I paid for our meal reluctantly.
While the beer served in the pub is good, no complaints there, I would suggest whatever you do DON'T ORDER ANY FOOD to avoid dissapointment. For about 8 we could have gone to the local fish and chip shop and got much better value and food that was edible.
The staff were completely disinterested, bordering on rude.
