St James Tavern, Piccadilly

On the tourist trail so watch your change as the tall short haired barman will try and short change you.

I took 6 Norwegians to this pub Friday 13th December 2013 around 2000 - 2030.

I asked for x 3 guinness, x 3 Heineken and a cider. £30.40 - fair doos London prices - cannot complain.

Gave the barmen (tall short hair) x 1 £20 as I could not hear him over the music. He made a joke as if to make me look stupid.

OK so I acknowledged my mistake and gave him x 2 £20s and expect £10.60 change.

You can guess what happened he put 0.60p change in my hand and moved off REAL sharpish. Normally I do not check my change but the fact that he ran off got me suspicious and low-and-behold I was a tenner down.

Finally I got his attention and made him aware of his 'error' he said he would have to contact the manager. But again he went off sharpish not giving me time to say to him to turn the music down as anything we say must be witnessed. I was not going to be accused of fraud by him. He went just around the other side of the bar where I could not see him (probably to get the stashed tenner) clicked the til open and returned my change. By the way the money wasn't even mine you thieving scum.

The Hastings Arms, Hastings

Bit of an update on the previous posts, now 2009.

I think the milk coloured fox has moved on *shame* she was a dish.

The food and the ale are always sound and worth a weekend pub lunch if you are suffering from chish and fips overload.

It is a great place with a roaring fire and usually a couple of minxes serving quality (S. Neame) ales.

(Yes Andy Bell was in there when I was in there).
Ale well kept 9 out of 10
Food, 9 out of 10 (always good and sometimes willing to take late orders 1503 on a Sunday).

The Ship Inn, Rye

I went there a few weeks ago for lunch as it was always a favourite of ours.

It seems to have had some sort of refurb with everything given a souless whitewash.
We ate (and wished we hadn't)

The main course arrived cold and it had a hair in it! The side dishes so late they had to be returned.

Onle plus point was that the boudicea ale went down a treat and seemed to be well kept. Only two ales on at the time.

If 10 is excellent I rate the refurb and food 2 out of 10.

The pints 7 out 10

The Stag, Hastings

Popped in over the weekend to sample food and ale.

Both were of a decent standard and I would recommend it as a pub on the 'Grand Tour Pub Crawl' for ales and for the Olde Look and feel of the pubbe and buildings as you walk up to it. The mummified cats add to the charm of the place too.

The pub is situated towards the top end of All Saints Street, keep sea behind you and it is on the right.

The Filo (First In Last Out), Hastings

This is a very cosy pub and a must visit if in Hastings.

Situated towards the end of High Street (keep the sea behind you and walk up past the Antique Shoppes) and this little Oasis awaits you on the right.

A fine choice of alea waited me (all brewed on site) and after sampling each I settled on the Porter.

This pub is a VERY welcome change from the usual tied Brewery pubs in Hastings.

Negatives? Perhaps better ventilation as it can get a bit smokey.

The Jenny Lind, Hastings

Not sure if you guys have the same pub here.

The Jenny Lind is a wonderfully warm place. The food might take a while but it is well worth the wait, I had the Fish Pie.

When I was there it was the Jack in the Green festival and the ales were Best, Directors, Bombardier and a Guest ale.

I heartily recommend this place and a welcome stop as you trundle on up to the FILO.

The Oakdale Arms, Harringay

A real pint of Mild in London (January 2006)!!
I have searched high and low for Mild in London, here my thirst was quenched.
Popped in as I only live around the corner. Several real ales are on tap. For me it is (Milton's) Minataur Mild.

Directions are easy but about 15 mins from Manor House tube. Out of tune walk down the hill (Green Lanes) and turn right at the lights down Hermitage Road 8 minutes down there to an oasis of real ale.
