The Halfway House, Pitney

This is my favourite pub, been going here for 10 years, I often make the journey from Manchester to have a meal and sample the real ales. Julian the ex-landlord created a great place to be and that atmosphere is still retained. Sadly it can be so hard to get a table as people book them up a long way in advance.
Great choice of real ales and food is good pub fayre.

The Crown Inn, Stockport

This is a real ale connoisseurs pub.
I always shied away from this pub with its very down to earth exterior, some friends dragged me in and I have been dragging other people in since. Superb range of beers from all over the country (highlight for me was Teignworthy from Devon and it was here I was intoduced to (imho) the best beer in the world "Jaipur" by Thornbridge). The staff are great and other customers are also really friendly. This is my favourite beer drinking pub in the North West.

The Shady Oak, Fernilee

Nice location with views over the Goyt Valley. Beer selection is Ok with Hobgoblin, (if only they served Thornbridge). The food is notable, its well cooked, good portions and a good price. The recession buster menu means its a place to drop in for a mid week meal (limited times).
The Landlord and Landlady are friendly and I eat there on a regular basis.

The Old Hall Inn, Whitehough

Dan the landlord is a rare breed, he cares about what a pub should be like. The range of beers is excellent (Thornbridge on a regular basis (imho the best brewery in the land)) and the food is good as well as reasonably priced. Lovely old pub, welcoming and a place that is worth the 2 mile to from my house.

The Swan Inn, Kettleshulme

This is a small friendly pub, the food prices are high but the 2 times I have had a meal there I went away feeling, wow that was worth it, the food is superb and worth the money. The pub serves Thornbridge on a regular basis (imho the best brewery in the land) and other great beers.
Its a place we go to for special occasions for meals and walk to for a drink. Great pub.

The Hanging Gate, Sutton

Fantastic views, very average food, very high prices, poor service.
The landlady tries to bully visitors into having a starter but with a steak and ale pie costing over 15 and meagre portions I just wished we hadn't been taken there.
9 miles from where I live and I am never going back.
