The Sun on the Hill, Birmingham
Recently reopened after a refurb (apparently) and prob under new management. One ale on, GK IPA, which was surprisingly OK. Ale + lager topped 5, so there's plenty of cheaper places around. Pub was lifeless - far too big for the number of people in (Thurs night). Occassional live/dj nights. Sky News on numerous TVs, big screen for weekend sports. 5/10.

Dark, dingy and dirty (on our visit at least). One drink and out - the Briar Rose or Welly are better options.

Not particularly worth the walk from town, but is near enough to Snow Hill/Livery Street to warrant a visit. Beers are alright - nothing special - but the sausages are delicious!

Suitable for a quick gassy Marstons (if my memory serves me?) with a sticky table and Sky Sports News.
There's plenty of better places in the city to go.

The Old Joint Stock, Birmingham
Rude staff (especially if you're not wearing a suit). It's good as an alleyway between the cathedral and the Wellington...

Great selection of beers, never had a bad one...
Nice and sociable in the evenings (but can be edging on dull during the day). OJS or Welly? No contest.
