The Barrowboy and Banker, London Bridge

A very decent Fulllers pub, very busy on both my visits. The food exceeded my expectations. Interesting to see Franzikaner wheat beer on draft. The Fullers Chiswick was tip-top. Loved the painting of the "Charge of the Scots Grey's" by Lady Butler above the bar! Another great bank conversion pub.

The Rake, London Bridge

I'm amazed by some of the negative comments about this great little bar- yes its expensive, but it offers a really excellent range of bottled beers & some very interesting changing stuff on the taps. No wonder some previous posters dont rate the Rake if they dont like Brewdog- but im sorry, Brewdog is possibly the finest & most innovative brewery in the country, so get over it! One of the "must do" places on any trip to the capital.

The Falcon, Clapham Junction

Impressive heritage pub just a minutes walk from Clapham Junction station. A vast traditional bar features a large range of hand pulls, I think there were eleven beers on when I visited early on a Tuesday lunchtime, & that was with several turned round. Tried the local Sambrooks Wandle, wasnt impressed tho, that could be the beers not my type rather than the pub doing wrong... definitely worth a revisit.

The Lord Clyde, Borough

Popped in for a swift pint as I was staying local & it's in the book of historic London pubs- great tiled exterior complete with Trumans Eagle & a proper pub inside too. I enjoyed my Hogsback TEA. Glad I made the effort to find it.

The Mug House, Claines

Classic village pub, reputedly the only one in the UK on consecrated ground (its in a chuchyard!) Multi room layout, a smoke room, lounge & snug, all different in character... the 4 ales on were Banks's mild & bitter, plus 2 guests from the Banks's stable, the 2 we tried were very good. Food from a no-nonsense menu lookled good too... handy for the M5 (junction 6)... well worth a visit

The Island Queen, Islington

Arrived here in the evening, the subdued lighting, the reflections from etched glass & victorian fittings lend the interior a warm comfy feel. Prices not cheap, but never thought they would be! Decent range of foreign beers including klosch, & the real ale was rated as fine quality by our party. No food being served at the time of our visit, the service was acceptable without being friendly... enjoy this pub for its classic victorian interior & interesting range of beers

The Palm Tree, Mile End

A lovely ex Trumans pub with a practically intact refurb dating from the 30's, a classic! Had contrasting experiences within 1 visit here- very nearly walked out, an incredibly rude landlady was on the phone & ignored us for sevreal minutes a s we stood expectantly at the bar, eventually served us 3 pints of cloudy beer for 9.60 when questioned we received the classic reply "Thats what its supposed to be like" howvere a chat with the landlord turned it around completely- a lovely old east end fella whos been in residence for over 30 years explained that the beer had a percentage of wheat in it hence the murkiness, & showed us around his classic pub with its unique(?) dartboard & boxing pics in the lounge, we left totally won over! A 7 for the surly & rude "greeting" tho!

The Warrington Hotel, Maida Vale

As a first time visitor im amazed by the negative comments about this beautiful pub, one of the best interiors in the country surely! Had a very good pint of Adnams too tho I take the pint about the pirces 9.90 for three pints! Never tried the food, I was a bit surprised there wasnt much of a fuss about food in there as its owned by Gordson Ramsey! Still, just enjoy it for what it is, a fantastic historic pub whch also serves as decent pint!

The Windsor Castle Inn, Lye

This pub & the Sadlers beers in particular are going from strength to strength, fantastic to have the Mud City Stout on, what a beer. With the Shovel down the road also going great guns, its a great time to vsiit Lye!

The Malt Shovel, Rowley Regis

Popped in here for the first time as it's now in the Good Beer Guide, & well done Dudley CAMRA for spotting this one, I have to say it exceeded my expectations! Neat & tidy pub with 4 cask beers on, two were from Enville, the Ginger was in superb nick. Also enjoyed the digital juke box, why oh why have so many pubs taken them out? Foolishness!

The Waterfall, Old Hill

Used to use the Waterfall when it was a freehouse, I revisited in November, what a disappointment! The pub looks run down & in serious need of a refurb, & the beer was flat, tired & out of condition. A good range of beers, but thats pointless if theyre not served well. Holdens can do much better!

The Nags Head, Great Malvern

was here last week for first time, was well impressed! Only 15 mins walk from Great Malvern centre. really busy even tho it was early in the week,16 handpulls, 3 of which had cider on. Good support for local breweries, all the beers i tried were in excellent nick. Just one disappointment- no dark beer? Surely they can manage one out of 13?!

The Princess Louise, Holborn

A must visit if you havent been before (or before the refurb) Sam Smith's have done an awesome job in restoring the pub to its former astonishing Victorian opulence. OBB was in superb nick on both my recent visits, much better quality than at the Cittie of York or the Olde Cheshire Cheese

The Manor Arms Hotel, Abberley Village

very pleasant hotel, the bar is at the back & has 4 handpulls, Hobsons beers (including the excellent Mild) often feature. Good food too.

The Old Fish Market, Bristol

Fullers pub serving the standard range of Fullers beers plus Butcombe as a permanent guest. Other guest beers from the Fullers/Gales portfolio may feature. This is THE pub to watch live sport in central Bristol if you want a decent pint too. Thai food also available.

31 Oct 2008 00:01

The Crown Inn, Churchill

Unchanged for many years, the Crown continues to serve a fine range of (mostly) local beers straight from the barrel & generally in great nick- the house beer is from Cotleigh, Bass, RCH PG Steam & Palmers IPA always feature, plus guests. Caution- lighting is minimal if you are away from the two real fires!

30 Oct 2008 23:57

The Fleece Inn, Bretforton

A genuine classic which has it all- the building, location, beer, everything here is top notch

30 Oct 2008 23:49

The Three Kings Inn, Hanley Castle

A superb traditional village pub, in the same family for over a 100 years. Beer is the main thing here, Butcombe & Hobsons Best always available along with a range of interesting guest beers. Superb!
