The Wellington, Birmingham

lots of interesting beers to try. leave the car at home & enjoy. at lunchtime the office folk come in with their lunch in a carrier bag. the pub doesnt do food, they just supply plates cutlery salt pepper & sauces to go with your takeaway or whatever.

The Old Joint Stock, Birmingham

the beer is good but pricy. the atmosphere used to be horribly smoky but now has been transformed so that you can see the wonderful room. Room? its like the size of a dance floor & 3 stories high. fabulous & all topped off by a theatre on the roof! never tried the food.

The Shakespeare Inn, Birmingham

we use this place as a regular lunchtime meeting place firstly because it opens at 11am.& its convenient for the stations., its very useful.
the beers are always good & the prices great for city centre.
food is usually good quality & of course it has been a no smoking pub for years before the ban.

The Old Swan, Netherton

If you visit this pub, its for the beer & food not "water & your own food"

i used to love calling in for a beer or three here & the folk are friendly, but lately the fag smoke in the atmosphere is too much.
Good beer Bad air.

anyone who considers this Bathams beer flat is obviously a lager drinker, as for expensive, it doesnt come any cheaper than here.

this is a little gem.
perfect ale. & today 3 of us had food;
beef roll, faggots & peas, steak pie & chips;
under 6-00! why go to posh places with fancy waiters?

Better known as "Ma Pardoes". Mrs Pardoe used to own it. there is so much to learn about this place that you have to visit. food id fabulous, you must book a bar table most luchtimes. the beer is incredable. most of it is brewed in the micro brewery behind the pub. very old & full of history. a must for anyone touring the black country

The Red Lion, Turners Hill

called in on way through from birmingham at lunchtime. warm fire to sit beside,very friendly locals, nice landlord, excellent bar food & good ale. what more could a pair of cold damp travellers want?

The Ship Inn, Rye

the 1 point rating was for the beautiful old buildimg, well worth a look.
visited lunchtime 12-02-05. All staff had obviously, that day, had a personality bypass, no charm, no smile or greeting for our party of 4 adults.
NO BITTER even though "cask conditioned ales" sign in huge letters on the beam over the bar.
Caeser salad main course was miniscule & i am sure there should be cheese somewhere in it. the rest of the dishes very average. not one smile from any of the ladies behind the bar or serving the food.
recommend you do not go for the food.
