The Hautboy Inn, Ockham

This pub is undeniably very attractive, and totally unique. However, the past few times I have visited have been something of a let down. On each occasion, it was a weekend lunch time visit, during lovely weather, so that may have something to do with it, but the service was TERRIBLE!

Food took aeons to arrive (and in one case was totally forgotten!) and the serving staff seemed to speak barely any english and were quite surly when we asked for a discount on the forgotten food.

BUT - for a drinking session, this really is a great pub. Well kept selection of beers (the wonderful Hogsback TEA is something of a regular).

Maybe one day I will get to have a good meal here too!!!

The Crown and Anchor, Old Woking

Assuming these reviews are all written by Old Woking "locals".

They themselves are a very good reason NOT to visit this pub.

If you want to watch chavs fighting over their Fosters, you'll love it. Otherwise, I wouldn't bother.

Bridge Barn, Woking

Great place for a summer evening, if you don't mind mozzie's nibbling on you from the nearby canal.

Interior is cosy and the food is pretty decent. Always fun to discuss whether the sculpture in the car park was specifically designed to look like a dog turd!

The Cricketers, Westfield

I spent the first 24 years of my life living about 500 yards away from this pub, but only ever ventured in to it accompanied! The regulars are very regular (i.e. never leave the premises!) - comes complete with requisite dog and barmaid who's worked there since the 80's (with the same haircut too by the looks of it).

Not what I'd call a friendly place for strangers, and the beer is a bit crap too. I would recommend you go a bit further along the road to the Mayford Arms for your pint if in the area.

The Fox, Fox Corner

This is what a "gastro pub" (I shudder to use the word) SHOULD be like - great decor, wonderful but not pretentious food and genuinely friendly staff.

Lovely on a sunny evening in the garden, and just as nice tucked up indoors in the winter.

Good selection of beers too (I know that's most people's main concern!)

The Compasses Inn, Gomshall

Not sure what it is about this pub, but I like it! The main bar area is quite small (most of the pub is set aside for eating), but to be honest, this pub is best visited during the summer months so you can take advantage of their garden and stream, so that doesn't matter.

Need to keep a watchful eye out for birds, the white splatters all over the picnic tables are not artful decoration!

The White Hart, Pirbright

Gone back to being "The White Hart" and had a re-furb as a ghastly "gastro pub". I personally think it's now atrocious. Some dreadful tartan/burberry effect carpet, extortionate food prices (for the quality that is) and the beer selection has gone down the toilet.

SUCH a shame, as the Moorhen was a lovely pub to go and chill out in.

The Sovereigns, Woking

Considering the location, this pub is much better than you'd expect. Always has a nice relaxed atmosphere, excellent selection of real ales, changed regularly.
Food is par for the course in terms of pub grub really. Pub quiz on Monday's and Wednesdays, always good for a giggle, (esp. when the quiz host is the girl who can't read properly!).
