The pub will be reopening soon and we will be attempting to return it to its former glory. As anybody who knows the pub now, this is going to take some time, so please bear with us as we try to turn it back into the family pub it once was.

Nice to see there are still pubs that do their own thing. Lots of atmosphere, great not to hear cheesy pop blaring out. Like it!

In response to Andysk. i was also in the friday before xmas which was very busy. If you had bothered to ask you would have found that one of the "staff" working flat out was actually the new manager! Just a question why didn't you say "popped in today?" as I'm pretty sure the 22nd was the friday before xmas!

Has been getting better recently. New landlord (and lady) they should pop into the next road and have a chat with the landlord at the Crown & Sceptre as they seem to be getting it right. But heading the right way. i'll be back in a couple of months to see how it's going.

Don't know which pub the previous comments were about but it certainly isn't this one. Bad beer, looks crap, staff miserable as hell. Don't know why people go in as there are 2 excellent pubs within spitting distance of it! Avoid at all costs.

Don't be put off by the previous comment. The pub was looking tired and in need of a lick of paint. Oven chips? thats what chips are supposed to look like when they are not drowning in fat! Was a lovely pub, still a lovely pub!

Just seen the most amazing thing. Came in for a pint and saw a young man on his hands and knees scrubing some wood paneling. I jokingly said to the barmaid "cleaners running late are they?" to which she replied "no he's the manager" Great to see someone taking so much pride in they're pub! WELL DONE.

Always a pleasamt atmosphere in here, the high roof means it doesn't get smokey. Staff are efficient once they see you, big pillar in the middle of the bar. Obviously have good relationship with the regulars. But the beer is worth waiting for. Well done lovely pub.

In response to dittonlass. I'm sorry you felt our customer service was not very good. However, if you were in the bar area we do not generally serve customers at their tables in this part of the pub. So, the barmaid was actually exceeding the service requirments by offering this service in this area. I have spoken to the member of staff working and she informs me that she was actually dealiing with something else at the time so couldn't offer a table service.
