Looks like I won't be receiving a membership application any time soon from PercivalSludge, then.
And what is a "cutomer", pray ask?

My hero may, sadly, have departed BITEs shores, but, worry not, Im still around. Better not make separate references to a particular gardening implement and a certain black playing card suit in the same breath within MountainMan's earshot, otherwise he'll probably label you a racist!

The Sir Richard Steele, Belsize Park

Correction: I have now not left any rating at all, which has caused the average to creep up from 6.6 to 6.8

The Sir Richard Steele, Belsize Park

As a belated response to PercySledges 15/09/2010 posting, Im sure that foghorn did far more damage to this sites reputation through his plethora of vulgar and offensive posts than I may have done solely on account of my zero rating of this particular establishment because of his liking for it. Now that he is, fortunately, no more as far as BITE is concerned, Im revising my assessment to dont know.

Can't get my head round that one, bogporn. What are you going on about?

Bogporn, I certainly care what MEthinks even if your addled brain cannot cope with intellectual activity (as your posts appear to demonstrate clearly). Your vocation should have been a rat catcher (and chasing your own tail).

I don't know whether your comments were directed at my posting, Chris, but please let me reassure you that I am NOT said Mr Foghorn in disguise. I agree 100% with your comments about this moron.

A typcially comprehensive and intelligent review from JohnBonser, methinks. Morons who like making loud noises in reduced visibilty (myself excepted, of course) should kindly take note....

Stanmer Park, Brighton

I drank my first ever pint (Grotneys Special fizz if my memory serves me correctly) in this pub way back when at the tender age of 17 years and 4 months. Judging from the previous reviews, looks like any pint I might choose to drink in there these days could well turn out to be my last!

White Horse, Emsworth

Bit surprised by the relatively lowish overall rating for this Fullers (ex-Gales?) house, which I visited for the first time with a friend on a Friday evening several weeks ago for a few jars. I found this to be a welcoming pub with friendly, quick and efficient bar service. Definitely plan to visit again when next in the area.

The Isambard Kingdom Brunel, Portsmouth

My first ever visit to this pub with a friend and some of his work colleagues for a jar or 2 took place early 1 Friday evening a few weeks ago. Surprisingly for a city-centre Wetherspoons at that time of the day and week, the atmosphere seemed remarkably civilised with no evidence of excessive drunkeness among the clientele, although things might well have taken a turn for the worse later on after we had left. However, the bar service was absolutely diabolical we sent out a search party for 1 of our group who had to wait nearly half an hour to get served!

The Sussex Cricketer, Hove

My inaugural visit on a Tuesday evening several weeks ago for a few jars with an old school friend unfortunately coincided with the aftermath of a Sussex cricket match at the adjacent County Ground, a special meal offer and the weekly pub quiz, which all conspired to make the bar service painfully slow, especially early on (when there was only 1 person serving behind the bar as far as I could tell). Several real ales were available on handpump, including Harveys Bitter. Definitely plan to revisit when next in the area, but will probably avoid Tuesday evenings, particularly if Sussex have been playing at Hove that day!

The Cricketers, Brighton

An ideal venue just off the Lanes for an annual Saturday afternoon reunion with old friends, as has been our custom for several years now (I wonder whether we have been mistaken for 1 of the rowdy stag dos referred to by a previous poster). Harveys Bitter is usually 1 of several real ales available on handpump and, despite the transient nature of the bar staff, the bar service is reasonably brisk. The food is typical pub grub and generally OK, if unspectacular.

The Harrow Inn, Cheam

Met a couple of friends in there 1 Wednesday evening a few weeks ago for a few jars prior to a meal at the excellent Charcoal Grill just up the road. The bar service is not the speediest, it has to be said, but several bog standard real ales (e.g. London Pride and Youngs Ordinary) are usually available on handpump. Beer prices can be very reasonable whenever there are special offers on. A fairly civilised atmosphere midweek, but can get overrun by the local pre-Sutton clubbing crowd at weekends.

The Wargrave Arms, Marylebone

A Youngs house which is an oasis of relative calm away from the hustle and bustle of nearby Edgware Road. Sadly the tables and comfy chairs which used to be located under the windows near the bar were a casualty of the refurb to which the previous poster has referred. That said, the refurb has not, in general, impacted adversely on the pubs atmosphere, and the bar service remains generally quick and friendly. Unlike most Central London pubs it tends not to get packed out early weekday evenings with office workers having a swift pint or 3 before heading back to the suburbs, something which I, for one, particularly appreciate.

The Waggon and Horses, Surbiton

My favourite Surbiton pub by a country mile. This Youngs house has certainly undergone a number of physical changes in the years since Joe Reilly was in charge, but, fortunately, the traditional atmosphere which was a hallmark of his tenure has been largely maintained. As previous posters have pointed out, prices are on the high side, but this is mainly due to Youngs pricing policy, I suspect. In any event I dont mind paying a few pence over the odds for my pint if it means that I dont have to endure the company of chavs (who, fortunately, are conspicuous by their absence here) while quaffing it. Only slight criticism is that the bar service can occasionally be slow whenever there is only 1 person covering both front and back bars.
