This boutique hotel / pub has seen some turbulent times over the last few years. Now with new owners, new management and an excellent new chief they have really nailed it.
I took my parents there and we have a fantastic meal with excellent service. Has to be said, one of the best meals we have had for some time.
Keep the good work up James and the team.

This was a good pub in years gone by, but having returned after some time, it has obviously changed from a warm, hospitable local to a very unwelcoming, second rate pub. The locals seemed friendly and chatty, but the rude and surly Landlord and his girlfriend are in the wrong business!

I have now been there twice in the last 2 months. I was a regular many years ago.
The food is fairly good, the views are great of Ranmore although it is right on busy A25. But very poor wine, which as returned.
The problem is the staff. never have I been to a place where some of the staff are consistently rude, and really couldn't give a dam.
The first time I congratulated the manager, who managed to turn our anger into just complacency. because of a young member of staff who told me the chief was going to charge me for two meals anyway. We hadn't even ordered them!!!!!!!!!
The second time the restaurant manger just lied to my father about his booking which was done in person the day before, no apology then pushed pasted my 74 year old mother nearly knocking her off her feet. If I had known that at the time I would have got the manager, Again, there and then.
We have used this chain for many years, even know the designer from Stratford on Avon. Is this vision turning into another Weatherspoons? I will never us the Wooton Hatch again.
We went to Gomshall Mill instead for a meal. Which I highly recommend. So may be the Hatch did us a favour, it's well worth the extra journey. And ask for Dan , Dean or Ed.
Conclusion, Lovely veiws, ok (if pricey) food, Staffed by incompetants.

I have now been here twice since the new landlord has taken over.
Well, what can I say:
The first time, he barked "What to you want" which took me back a tad.
The second time, I was spoken to so rudely, my wife and I turned on my heels and just walked straight out never to return.
The landlord has obviously missed his vocation and should have stayed in the Millwall football terraces.

Now Have waited a while for the new Management to settle in.
They are working hard to get rid of the after work drinkers, who, hold up the sales when winter months set it. Oh well they will learn the hard way.
Ruined a lovely pub, Youngs have done it again, amd got the wrong Staff.

Yeah right!! great pub if you want to drink form a dirty glass and stick like super-glue to the filthy carpet whilst getting your head caved in with a pool cue by the local army of gippos. but then it takes all sorts!

The first place in many years that make you more than welcome.
Tatty around the edges, but definitely worth a visit.

The Red Lion's management have no idea of how to deal with the public, no idea how to run a pub, even less of an idea how to deal with their rude staff.
And this is coming from a customer.
Lets hope the new management make it a better place as it was 5 years ago.

If you don't like the locals, find somewhere like the Angle in Woodhatch, and then complain.
I'm just waiting for the new management. Bring back Rose and George.

The Fox and Hounds, Groton
The beers are really very kept, the best selection of larger, Stella & Peroni .
The food is honest and for-filling. BUT the home made burgers are the best you will find.
I've never had a better burger, anywhere. London, Paris or Barcelona.
A very 70's fashioned bar and a too light atmosphere but worth a visit. And have a burger, did I mention that??
