The Cherry Trees, South Norwood
Where do we start? I've seen a good few fights in this pub, usually when John the landlord is drunk and berating his wife. Non-english speakers are not welcomed, the beer is often flatish, not through the pipes not being cleaned (usually) but because the glass washer is awful and doesn't do its job - get a beer in a Carling glass and look at the scum that builds up in the raised carling logo! Toilet often a state, there's only been soap in the gents once in 2 years and that was for a family party. Garden is great but in need of TLC and there are some odd smells coming from there...

I dunno about being on a council estate - there are some council blocks around but also lots of private flats and houses. This is a clean, friendly pub with good staff and a decent atmosphere. Lager is always good.

The Jolly Sailor, South Norwood
Very nice, clean, family-run pub by a professional couple. Locals and outsiders alike are welcomed, great jukebox & pool table. There's a dartboard for those who want it and a fruity as well as a quiz machine that has a monthly payout. Always a decent pint in here and a genuinely safe family venue for sporting events such as (at the moment) World Cup games, footy in general etc... There are 2 widescreen TVs and a Big Screen so you can always see and the staff are always happy to put different channels on the tellies so that they can accommodate as many punters as possible. Very nice garden. All round, you can see that this is a well looked after business and it reaps the rewards in its customer base.
