£10.05 for an Estrella and a Heineken cooking lager. Victoria is pricey and isn't great for pubs but this is a getting a bit ridiculous. Had a pint of Ghost Ship next and it just wasn't very nice at all, bordering on vinegary. It's quite a nice looking pub and would be fine for sharing a bottle of wine. However, if they're not going to be sensible with their prices they won't get many people who fancy popping in for a couple of pints.

Nice looking pub but rather soul-less. A watched a barman, who clearly couldn't care less, serve four pints of Meantime to a youngster and then ask him for c.£20 without warning him it was very expensive. He won't be back and others will no doubt follow him out the door given time. The Bricklayers has far more charm, selection, atmosphere...

Dave - If you look again you'll find that I did say that the Anchor is a good pub. I'll be back to watch football - providing it doesn't happen again. Same as for any pub. Having said that, I don't think many would have been that concerned about the reputation of this pub (or any other for that matter) if a kid had been blinded by a glass or knocked out by a thrown stool. On the day of the North London derby, it was clear that it wasn't going to take much for the bad atmosphere to get violent. By asking a couple of idiots to stop the racist abuse or ask them to leave it could have been avoided. We all saw what happened when the bar staff allowed it to continue. Lets face it, if it continues to happen you'd imagine the Anchor would suffer (if it hasn't already). You'd be left with those who think its acceptable to attack people in pubs and the (many) decent people who regularly come along will soon find somewhere else to go for a quiet and safe drink. If you had a mate who always started fights you'd soon get fed up and find another mate.....

Good pub and good beer - McMullens, a choice of lagers and non alcoholic Becks for drivers. Not a bad beer garden and the food is reasonably good pub fare. Good also for watching the football. But not when its the North London derby......I was there yesterday with a mate and about 10 Arsenal fans had come along to this pub in "Tottenham country". All through the game we had to put up with shouts of 'terrorist/gyppo ****' aimed at the Spurs players and you could feel the mood get uglier by the minute. Then when the Spurs winner went in it all kicked off. It was the usual bunch of idiots throwing cheap punches and cowardly chavs shouting and then hiding but it got ugly - tables going over and glasses everywhere. One guy, with a sloping forehead and an IQ about the same as Arsenals points total this season, even picked up a stool to throw but was persuaded not to. There were quite a few children and women in the pub as well as some old guys hoping to see the game in safety. I felt that the bar staff could have nipped this in the bud right at the start and avoided this happening.

The Faltering Fullback, Finsbury Park
Best pub in the area, although the standard locally isn't brilliant. Great lagers if that's what you are after. Ales are Pride and John Smiths. You don't get much less uninspired than that. Can get busy and very noisy if you have gone along for a quiet chat. Good atmosphere watching rugby/football but you may not get the best view, especially in the front bar. Very good Thai food if you want to impress/have had a few Leffe's....

There can be no doubt that the Canny Mans a nice looking pub. Problem is that its just not very enjoyable. The staff are a bit of a joke. Apprently the manager is famed for being a character. Its an in joke that he is bad mannered. Problem is that its not funny and he just comes across as a tw*at. Its a pity its not a better experience as I have family living nearby so I could come along fairly regularly. I'd rather travel towards town or nip into the Hermitage for a quick one. I don't see many returning after paying the inflated prices and meeting the manager. Shame though, under decent management this could be a great pub.

I went into the Perry Hill last week for a couple of drinks. I had been before and found it to be welcoming and having a decent selection of beers. Sadly last week it was very disappointing. the choice was pretty uninspiring - Pride and Bombadier - and the Pride was poor. I took it back and said it wasn't very good hoping I'd be offered a Bombadier instead but the barman said "I don't drink bitter so I wouldn't know". Failing to realise that I didn't really care what his preferred tipple was...I just wanted a nice beer. I ended up having an Amstel which says it all. The dining area was very quiet. The food in there is very good, or at least it was six months ago. There were a group in that were quite drunk and the language was a bit disappointing (you're good at swearing lads even though the vocabulary is very limited, now lets try it a bit quieter....) and the management did nothing to keep them calm. Perhaps this was linked to the dining area being virtually empty. The place is up for sale but it was still disappointing. Its a fine looking pub and there isn't much in the area but the Honor Oak and the Blythe are better.

Great bar. friendly staff that know what they are doing. Loads of character and terrific value. Deuchars and Bitter and Twisted were 1.85 when I was last in. I had a Deuchars in The Albannach in Trafalgar Square recently and it was 4.20. Guess which was the nicer pint?

The first time I was in this pub there was a girl in possibly trying to sell something, maybe even begging. She was manhandled by two employees (clearly under instruction) and thrown out. Literally. She slid along the floor and crashed into a table near the door. It was cowardly and depressing. This was my first and last time in here. Even for a tourist type pub it was dreadful. Try any other pub in the area. I'd rather give up socialising than return.

Holborn Whippet, Camden
Finally got round to visiting this highly recommended craft pub last week and a thoroughly enjoyable experience it was too. The fella behind the bar let me sample a couple before I went for a lovely Moor beer. At £3.40 a pint it was very reasonable for central London. Great choice of beers that understandably get more expensive as they get stronger. Looking forward to my next visit.
