Popped in here for a spot of lunch before catching a show and I was pleasantly surprised. There are two or three 'chain' pubs (slug & lettuce etc) nearby so maybe my judgment was clouded but by that stage all I wanted was a proper pint and a sandwich. Tribute, Pride and two others were on and the Tribute was very nice indeed. The baguette I had was very good and priced about right. i guess this is more of a weekday evening pub with more life then but as a one off visit it was very good.

I came in here from the one across the road and the first thing that struck me - aprt from the pink armchairs in the entrance - was how light it is compared to previous visits. The whole place has been opened up and it now has the feel of someone's front room. I had two pints of Pride both of which wre full. The landlord (I assume) even topped one up without being prompted. This is, however, a venue that isn't quite sure what it wants to be. The restaurant seems to be the main focus with the 'holding area' comprising of two sofas. They were comfortable enough but not really pub like. There was a fruit machine in the corner but positioned in a way that suggests it is there for effect rather than use. On the whole this isn't a bad place but only for a swift half, not a session.
There are places that could do a lot worse than these two pubs in Westcott so instead of criticising and maoaning go out a support your local establishment - you'll miss them when they are gone.

Having read a lot of the comments about this place I thought I should give it, and the one across the road, a go. I went in there and guess what? It's a pub that sells beer and other add-ons. Nothing remarkable, nothing exciting, just a pub. I had a pint of Adnams which wasn't bad but not brilliant and the people at the bar weren't over friendly nor were they rude. had I been able to dedicate an entire evening to this pub I'm sure conversation could have been struck. If I find myself in Westcott again I shall certainly have another drink here.

Having spoken to the previous occupants Punch did indeed give them a period of no rent on the proviso they spent their own money 'doing it up' Given the state the people before left it in it was no easy thing to do but they tried. For whatever reason the pub is now shut - we will probably never know the truth. Beare Green needs somewhere for people to go, to be a community. It doesn't help that the A24 cuts it in half and the local councillor is old and out of touch with the (ever increasingly) younger population. But that's a discussion for a different mantle

The pub is shut. Again. Punch Taverns haven't given a reason but say they hope to put new tennants in there soon. Their website says a full refurb is due too. It also shows theat Arty P's & The Bush are looing for new tennants - is this a taste of things to come for the pub trade...?

Great lunchtime experience after a morning shopping. Good food, excellent beer and very attentive landlord and bar staff. Definitely go back when in the area.

Great pub, fantastic beer (Harveys), good food. I'm never around in the evenings so can't comment on that but as a lunchtime drink it can't be beaten. Shame there aren't more like it

The new landlord & lady appeared to have settled in well - even reducing the price of Chiswick. The good atmosphere has returned and it is now a proper decent pub again. Keep up the good work

It's open now. From what I can see (and I've only been in once) it does have the potential to be a nice little boozer. The pool table, darts board, tv & 'moving' carpet have all gone. The menu is reasonable, the set menu looks to be a good deal and the people running it have had pub/bar/chef experience. I think the landlady said it is her third pub she and her partner are currently running so hopefully....? Give them a while to settle in, make changes and become part of the community and I think Beare Green will have a good pub again

Any idea when this pub is due to re-open? The sign says 'soon' and has done for nearly three weeks. Given the high cost of fuel & taxis, etc, I'm desperate for a pub within walking distance!

Unfortunately this place has gone downhill again - not sure why. It could have something to do with Pip leaving? Shame really. It was turning into a very good place to drink

It would appear there is a Supreme Being after all. The establishment does indeed appear to be an ex-pub. I'm not sure what the tea rooms are like though....
Here's a radical thought - make it into a profitable family friendly place and (another radical proposal coming) give easy access to the garden rather than through the car park? Beare Green residents are getting younger, with families, and have nowhere to go for a decent pint

Stella! John Smiths! Ales? I would rather have a wet weekend in the hukes dead love shack with a plutonian female (is there such a thing?) than drink that muck - although I did enjoy a proper John Smiths (not the smooth stuff) in a pub in Lyme Regis. Does a non residents drink contain anything. At all?

Dear missannthrope, whilst I bow down to your super knowledge I think you'll find the motel is in Capel - just! The entire pub should be flattened, including the bizarre love-shack in the car park, and turned into golf course!

New landlord just taken over, lets hope he doesn't keep running out of beer! All the smokers are now outside so it's quite empty in the pub. I think the tv should be kept switched off though

Good food, good beer and smiling faces behind the bar. Would recomend in the summer for childrens play area and childs portions of food

Awful pub, awful beer - it all tastes the same. Do they clean the lines ever? I'd rather drink in the comfort of my own front room. At least I get a smile and conversation!

Had lunch in there recently. Not so much a 'sausage ploughmans' as a do-it-yourself sausage baguette with a salad garnish. Tasted good though. Beer excellent, good selection with many guest ales due. Prefer the Six Bells for good value food

The Dukes Head, Beare Green
The pub is now up for sale. The previous occupants moved on very abruptly and the pub is being left to wallow in its own self pity.
Will it ever be a community pub?
No.
Should the next pubco that buys it forget about the bottom line and garner the opinions of the likely customer base?
Yes.
Will it happen?
No.
Yet another pub lost to the greedy corporate pubco's
