The Bree Louise, Euston

I went here for a couple of beers after work based on the BITE score. Whilst the range of real ales was impressive the pub was an absolute dive. Whilst some people are happy to accept a scruffy lived in look as it deters the tourists I would rather go somewhere that is clean and comfortable

The Coach and Horses, Covent Garden

I stumbled across the C&H after a night at the Opera House, I was only looking for a quick nightcap and my expectations were low. However what a little gem was uncovered. Whilst waiting for my Guinness to be poured properly, the landlord, Jimmy was very engaging and very chatty. The Guinness was as good as Jimmy promised. For a 73 year old he was full of life and good banter. I had to stay for another which again was poured perfectly by Sean and delivered to my spot in the corner. Sean had a great customer service ethic about him and I wasnt surprised to learn he is Jimmy's son. The pub is not "Oirish" but is a small but perfectly formed proper pub run by a proper landlord who happens to be Irish. The Coach has now overtaken Bradleys as my favourite "wee" pub. The physical size of the bar and the limited amount of real ales will disappoint some but I feel the service and ambience make it an oasis in a renowned desert (tourist) area and I will certainly be returning especially as Jimmy stocks the world's greatest crisps : Tayto

The Swan, Bushey

Excellent pub that has managed to avoid being modernised,gasto-sised or selling its soul. Small but perfectly formed with plenty of reading material and board games available. The DoomBar was perfect, I took another just to be sure. Youngs and Landlord available. For the non-beer drinkers there was a very decent selection of whiskeys on offer. The customers were friendly and engaging. I must mention the Toasted sandwiches - at only £1.20 each.
I heartily recommend a visit. Sky sports on screen and a quiz night was being advertised for Tuesday night. A real good old fashioned pub

The Blackwood Arms, Littleworth Common

I visited this pub last week as it was on my planned ramble route. I arrived at 1:50 just in time for a food order. Whilst waiting for food I was offered a sample of the guest beer by a very helpful and enthusiastic barmaid. The beer was excellent and my Sausage sandwich was the best ever. The landlady came by and engaged us in conversation, as did a couple of senior lady customers . I was very easily tempted into a second pint. Overall an excellent experience and I look forward to another visit
