The Catford Bridge Tavern, Catford

Open again for ales aplenty!!!

The Three Kings, Clerkenwell

Arrived just after the occassional Hip Hop Pub Quiz they have here on some Saturdays. Lovely old school boozer. Beers were good as was the welcome and the vibe. Toilets could do with a makeover though.

The Betsey Trotwood, Clerkenwell

Came across this pub for the first time last night and could not drink up and leave fast enough. Appears to be full of "trendy" city types pretending to be media types. Heaving with smarmy smug wannabe "scenesters".

The Angel, Old Street

Proper traditional boozer in an area lacking in such things. Good beer and comfortable. Although the guy the guy behind the bar didn't appreciate me putting Smack My B1tch Up by The Prodigy on the jukebox, and cancelled it half way through, (Shouldn't have it on the jukebox then should he)? Good pub though.

The Bricklayers Arms, Shoreditch

Basic stripped down boozer, with sanded floors and gloss red paint over everything. Looks rubbish. The seating is rubbish. The outside smoking area is rubbish. The clientele seemed pretty rubbish. Stay away, it's a rubbish pub.

The Griffin, Shoreditch

Spotted Alex from Arctic Monkeys in here once. They do a good pint of Staropramen. A mixed crowd, including some kids that seem to dress like Frank Spencer, but they are probably too young to realise. A real grotty hole, but good for it.

The Foundry, Shoreditch

Most pretentious looking pub i've ever been in. Full of artsy wannabees trying too hard to be something they're not. Worth visiting for the novelty factor and 2.80 beer, but not what you could call a relaxing experience. Lots of secondhand furniture placed in random places, and "art" via the medium of monitors displaying "poetry". I did like the loos though, where graffitti has been encouraged, so the place is covererd floor to ceiling.

The Southwark Tavern, London Bridge

Big pub, with friendly doorman. Nooks and crannys can be found downstairs. Good range of beers, but a bit slow on the service. Good tunes while I was in there too, "I Get Lifted" by KC & The Sunshine Band, TUNE! Toilets are bit too cosy in the urinal dept, (nobody uses the middle one, unless you want to rub shoulders with each person on either side). Hand dryer doesn't work.

The Blue Eyed Maid, Borough

A good pint of Star, but pricey at 3.40!! Agree with other comment about lack of atmosphere. Seems to be just somewhere people pop into randomly rather than return to. Lots of outside benches. Hand dryer sounds like its about to die.

The Spread Eagle, Shoreditch

Quirky, decor, nice tunes, feels good, then.......... broken lock on the toilet door, no soap, no hand dryer. Only go if you reckon you'll never need a wee.

The Shakespeare's Head, Holborn

Wetherspoons pub in need of a makeover. Bar area stank on vomit. Kronnenburg good though, as is the case generally with Wetherspoons beer. As a member of the Hand Dryers Appreciations Society, (toungue in cheek, find us on Facebook), I found the ususal Wetherspoons World Dryer as effient as ever, although the toilet is decorated in huge early 90's tiling. Oh, and my 27 year old girlfriend was asked for ID by the man on the door which I found amusing, (my girlfirend didn't).

Queens Larder, Bloomsbury

Found this pub by chance last night. Cosy, strange little place. The premium lager on offer was Stella, which tasted a little watery, although it's rarely you get a a good pint of draught Stella. Pint was 3.35, so is quite pricey. Liked the uptight looking formaly dresses barman. Friendly crowd, good covered bench area outside, (with environment killing heaters, so was warmish), and strange plastic benches. As a member of the Hand Dryer Appreciation Society, (toungue in cheek, find us on Facebook), I say that their hand dryer in the gents was efficient and needed no hand wiping on the jeans.

Inside 72, East Dulwich

Hoorah. The soap is back!

The Endurance, Soho

My favourite pub in Soho, it's all about the jukebox, and the draught Kronny.

Inside 72, East Dulwich

Some soap in the loo would be nice.

The Castle, East Dulwich

Best pub in East Dulwich! Frequented by the type of regular that have been driven away from trendy Lordship Lane. Cheaper than Lordship Lane. No frills. A proper old skool boozer.

The Gowlett Arms, Peckham

The pizzas are good, but not brilliant, (very very thin and greasy and need a wider selection of toppings you could choose yourself). The lagers are ok, but not a brilliant selection. The music is set at a low volume and play easy listening non-descript dance compilations from open to close, (get a jukebox!!!) Brilliant it has a pool table though. Can get very full. Nice, (small), decked garden. Friendly barstaff and landlord. Can be a bit too child friendly, (get a babysitter!)

The Palmerston, East Dulwich

More a restarunt than a pub. You can walk in a find all the empty tables reserved. Avoid if you looking for a drink.

Liquorish, East Dulwich

Better suited to Canary Wharf. Destined to be shut in a year or two. Maybe too pretentious even for East Dulwich. And expensive.

The Bishop, East Dulwich

Ultimate East Dulwich pretentious pub. Incredibly smokey, considering it likes to think of itself as a bit of a gastro pub. Lovely dog, (although it does ignore everybody). Landlord always looks stressed and miserable. Poor selection of draught lager. Always very busy with uber chav Posh & Becks wannabees. Only recommended for a drink on a weekday afternoon.

The Black Cherry Bar, East Dulwich

Very much aimed towards the female professional and East Dulwich yummy mummys.

The East Dulwich Tavern (EDT), Dulwich

Like the new decor from a few months back, a bit more lady friendly in the bar on the right. Still great for the footy. Not that impressed with the lagers or the prices. Why don't they sell basic food downstairs, as well as the restaraunt upstairs. Random DJ's at weekend, some good, (Loved DJ Crash & Burn), some naff. Music is sometimes so loud around the side with the mosaic floor, that you can't have a conversation. Friendly manager allowed up to take the outside chairs in for the footy. Have recently installed chalk boards in the mens toilets for any profound thoughts, most of which end up being profane, (and all over the walls).

Unlike most of the bars East Dulwich, this one doesn't seem to be pretentious. Sure the Guardian crowd are here, but so are the chavs, the local shop keepers and the odd pensioner.

Inside 72, East Dulwich

Reminds me of the original Purple Turtle that used to be in Reading, (before they put a shopping centre on top of it, and without the bar staff topless dancing on the bar).
A good selection of premium lagers. But yes, too small. Why can they knock it through and extend it? Music is starting to dip a bit from the owners fondness for blasting out purley early 70's rock, (OK in moderation, but he does tend to go off on one).
Another negative that has recently started is a supposed "club" night, when they take away the tables, put a sheet in the window, hang up a glitter ball, and try to charge a few quid, becasue they are open later. This doesn't seem to fit the profile I thought they were going for. In summary, restore the constantly good music, expand or get some bigger local premises, stoo stinging people for extra money. If you want a seat in there on a weekend evening, get there before 7.30pm.
