Externally an attractive 16th century village pub with great internal decor. However, in spite of its being a free house the range of beers was somewhat token. Staff friendly, but easily the worst pub food we've experienced for ages: poor quality, smell of bad cooking fat, and a curious mix of marginal over- and under-cooking. Eat elsewhere.

Sunday lunch (you need to book ahead)on 1 Oct 06 was absolutely first class. Staff, overseen by working landlady, were polite, cheerful, friendly and efficient. As stated below, it's not cheap but you get what you pay for and the quality is excellent and worth it; wonderful and imaginitive range of vegetables with the Sunday roast. Again echoing the comment below, food is prepared freshly not defrosted quickly.

Archetypal village pub with everything going for it physically: 15th century inn, oak beams, inglenook fireplace (ie stacks of atmosphere)plus plenty of parking, nice garden and generally clean.
Food was okay, but fell slightly short of a positive recommendation (eg you must go to the WH for its food)in that it was slightly overpriced for the quality; nothing to complain about, but a general perception that the same quality is availble slightly cheaper elsewhere - or slightly better for the same price.
Main gripe is the unacceptable lunchtime behaviour of the landlord's children, who rushed in & out of the dining room from the garden shouting 'Daddy whatever' and generally used it as their playroom, including bouncing a noisy ball. One doubts that the landlord would permit such intrusive and irritating behaviour from visitors.
Presumably this unruly behaviour does not occur in the evenings, but it gives an adverse indication of the landlord's attitude to his customers.

Nice little village pub with atmosphere. Good beer (Harvey's)and excellent value traditional Sunday roast lunch. Menu not extensive, but personally I would sooner have a choice of four dishes all good than a choice of 20 (probably frozen)mediocre ones. Staff very welcoming. Garden at back could do with a tidy, but I don't go to a pub for its garden. Definitely recommended.

Great community pub. Doesn't look it from outside but really friendly staff and locals. Cheap, good grub too!

I was in this pubs loads of time over Christmas and it must have been one of the best atmospheres in Macc. Good mix of ages and it felt really safe with the landlady controlling everything including the door.
Last time I was in here was about 4 years ago. Its improved a 100 times since then - pay it a visit it deserves it.

Don't understand the low rating. It is an old country pub with stacks of atmosphere. Service was friendly and efficient. Harvey's best was served. Wine list was limited, but if you want a choice of 50 go to a wine bar. Sunday roast was excellent. We shall return!
