Very tatty and run down. Used to be quite a vibrant and busy pub but is sadly a shadow of its former self. On my last visit I had to return my fish and chips as fish was off and tasted vile, despite claim on pub front that they serve fresh fish daily. Definitely a pub in need of a major overhaul.

Visited this pub today with high expectations, partly due to the reviews on this website. The location of the pub is great and it is very homely and attractive inside. Unfortunately it is let down badly by the food. I had sausage and mash in an onion gravy and my partner had burger and chips. At �8.95 and �7.95 respecively it was reasonably expensive, but worst still it was awful. The sausage consisted of four chipolata sized sausages which looked and tasted as if they were the cheapest supermarket value brand. The mash was lumpy and the gravy was a pool of grease. Several of my partner's chips were still frozen in the middle. Needless to say, despite this being a very attractive pub with reasonably prompt service, we will not be returning and I cannot recommend it at all.

A reasonable pub with decent choice of beer however spoiled by a group of mainly older men who seem to have taken up residence in the pub and spoil the atmosphere with their foul language and racism. Overheard a gravel voiced member of this group refer to the people of Haiti's earthquake victims as 'monkeys' and was so offended I had to leave. Its a pity that this minority can spoil what is otherwise a half-decent pub and I'm not the only person who has been offended by this group. I wish the management would do something to curb the behaviour of these people but I guess they spend a lot in the pub (I imagine funded by the taxpayer).
The East European staff are polite and helpful and the food is ok.
