Great pub from all my yesterdays. But these days I wish there was less food served here, or it was not served all day, as I find the continual 'school canteen' smell quite off-putting when I'm trying to enjoy my real ale. If you want food, go to a cafe, or a restaurant. If you want beer, go to a pub, but by all means enjoy a bag of nuts or crisps with your pint, as they don't pervade the whole atmosphere like a blanket.

Has recently been turned into a smart Brewhouse, so there's lots of variety on offer for the beer drinker. When I visited around tea-time there were groups of lads behaving well, families, and couples enjoying an afternoon visit. Seemed quite noisy to me, no doubt because of the many customers and the myriad bar staff. I'd go again, but not on a match day as Blackpool FC is also on this road.

Curious small, narrow pub seems to this Sassenach to be set, back in time, in a TV episode of "Hamish Macbeth" or in the film"Whisky Galore". The seating is made up of 4 bus seats, a couple of ordinary chairs and 2 high bar stools. There's a long table between the 2 parallel sets of 2 bus seats. And that's it. The pictures on the walls mainly consist of photographs of large numbers of merrymakers celebrating having filled the pub. The landlord said 32 is the record. Thankfully there is no TV, no juke box and no fruit machine. But there's a grand whisky selection, although the beer isn't anything to write home about, being limited to Tennents (I didn't try it) and Belhaven Best, which I found gassy. I reckon the landlord likes a wee dram, but isn't bothered about beer. I found him to be pleasant and cheery, and he was pleased to chat as long as I wanted. It was difficult to remain self-absorbed in such a small place, after all.
