The Canton Arms, South Lambeth
TALLTORQUIL's ciomment below seems rather similar to what SOUTHLOPNDONLION says in his comment about the Royal Albert round the corner...really not sure what he's on about but suppose he's never actually visitd the pubs..... nothing brazilian/portuguesey about the Canton (not that that would be a bad thing)...ex manager dave gone off to work in Richmond now, but Linz et al do a great job of livening the place up. Still a great local, decent beer, decent prices and friendly service.

Pretty much agree with most of the below actually...nice pub, beer garden's one of the best in the area (sadly....) but the staff tend to be a bit 'meh' and its way too expensive. Also no draught cider. Place tends to be full of rahs too, which is often disconcerting...!

The Royal Albert, South Lambeth
Not sure what South London Lion is on about, unless he's some kind of genteel old chap terrified by life and noise in bars...! Nothing wrong with the Canton or the Wheatsheaf (former is a great pub, latter a bit dingy but friendly enough)...problem with the fenti is the upitsownarseness, but even thats been better lately. ANyways...the revamped RA is very nice, decent beer nice staff and cosy atmosphere...food isnt spectacular for the price but thats no great shakes. Its a bit off the beaten track which is what's caused trouble for the past tenancies, so hope this one gets a decent shot at a lifespan. Definitely worth repeated visits!

Lovely pub, great staff, very friendly. A decent local, basically. The food can be a bit hit and miss, but go for the drink and the atmosphere and you can't go wrong really.

Nice airy pub, fairly decent beer, but...the barman was a moron...apart from miserable service, i went up to get two halves at 11:10 to be told he'd finished serving...when asked about ringing last orders he said he didnt have to anymore, no legal requirement (whether true or not, it still helps to point out to your handful of monday night patrons when the bar is closing)...then we saw a couple of locals waiting to be served at the bar! The barman was waiting for my party to leave before serving them, so we left telling him excactly what we thought of his service and the fact it was one rule for regulars and one for everyone else... great way to run a pub, especially after we'd just spend upwards of thirty pounds in there. Won't be going back. Sad, cos the pub itself is quite nice :-(

The Wheatsheaf, Vauxhall
Generally agree with SOUTHLONDONLION below. Sadly, the Wheatsheaf is no more. The jazz/live music nights were good and packed, but they didnt address the fundamental failings of the pub. Hopefully it will be reincarnated as a decent community pub by people who know how to take it in hand.
